Description
Pancho works alongside Dr. Owen as an assistant, accompanying him on fossil expeditions and travels. He first appears during a paleontological mission in Mexico, demonstrating proficiency with a lasso he typically carries. Following this, he transitions into a recurring role as Dr. Owen's hired assistant, though the specific employment terms remain undefined.

Pancho maintains a level-headed and neutral demeanor, frequently attempting to manage Dr. Owen's eccentric behavior with limited success. Despite this pragmatic approach, he willingly engages in dinosaur confrontations when necessary, utilizing his lasso. His design reflects Mexican cultural associations: a beige poncho over a blue shirt, a mango-colored sombrero with triangular patterns, brown hair styled with a small goatee, predominantly closed eyes, and noticeably emphasized lips. The character's Japanese name derives from "poncho," reflecting clothing stereotypes, while the English name loses this contextual meaning.

Throughout the first series, Pancho primarily functions to counterbalance Dr. Owen's impulsive actions, particularly during the latter's persistent attempts to court Ursula. His role expands in the second series (Mesozoic Meltdown) when he and Dr. Owen arrive at Max Taylor's residence too late to prevent its teleportation by Gabbro. Their subsequent interactions with Dr. Z prove sufficiently aggravating that the Alpha Gang leader expels them from the Backlander, leaving them stranded as the timeship departs.

Later in the second series, Pancho accompanies Dr. Owen to the D-Lab for a social visit. Seth and his Cryolophosaurus corner them during this gathering, transforming them into hostages used as leverage to lure the D-Team back to the present timeline.

No substantial character development or backstory expansion occurs beyond these narrative points. Pancho maintains a consistent supporting role across his appearances, with no documented involvement in movies, OVAs, or spin-off media. His narrative function centers on moderating Dr. Owen's behavior while participating in dinosaur-related scenarios when intervention is required.
