Misanagi is the female leader, known as the Okashira, of the Sanada Ninja clan, a group sworn to guard the Divine Elixir. She appears in the anime adaptation as an original character not present in the original manga. She has long brown hair styled into two ponytails on each side of her head and typically wears mourning clothes or a ninja outfit during combat. Her motivations are rooted in her duty to protect the elixir and uphold the traditions of her clan, which brings her into conflict with Himura Kenshin and his allies during a storyline centered on the elixir. Misanagi is a highly skilled ninja, capable of infiltrating heavily guarded locations such as the German Embassy without detection.
