Megane, whose real name is Satoshi, is a classmate and friend of Ataru Moroboshi at Tomobiki High School. He is best known as the self-appointed leader of the Stormtroopers, a group of boys who have sworn absolute devotion to the alien Lum. His nickname, which means eyeglasses, is a direct reference to his most prominent physical feature. Megane is an intense otaku with a deep and unwavering infatuation for Lum, serving as the Lord Chairman of the Supreme Council of her fan club. He is highly energetic and prone to dramatic, rambling speeches that often touch on philosophical or political themes, and he has a notable fascination with Nazi Germany memorabilia. Despite his frequent outbursts, he can quickly return to a calm demeanor and demonstrates a surprising amount of common sense. His strong personality drives him to orchestrate elaborate schemes to gain Lum's attention, usually for his own benefit, though he also carefully monitors the other Stormtroopers to ensure their full loyalty to her. Although he considers himself Ataru's rival for Lum's affections, the two often spend time together outside of school, and Megane's antagonism toward Ataru is tempered by moments of camaraderie. He does not possess any supernatural abilities, relying instead on his organizational skills and fierce dedication to Lum to lead the Stormtroopers in their various comic plots. Over the course of the series, his role expanded significantly from a minor background character in the original manga to a recurring and memorable presence in the anime, and his real name was only revealed in the final episode of the original television series.
