Milo, known in the original Japanese version as Asbel, is the prince of the city-state of Pejite. He is the twin brother of Lastelle, whose death early in the story sets him on a path of vengeance. Milo is a skilled pilot and mechanic, raised in the workshop culture of his city, which gives him practical knowledge of engines and airships. His initial personality is driven by a fierce desire for revenge against the Tolmekian Empire, which invaded and destroyed Pejite and caused his sister’s death. He is hot-blooded and impulsive, launching a solo attack on Kushana’s fleet, which leads to his crash in the Toxic Jungle. There he meets Nausicaä, and through her compassion and understanding of the natural world, his perspective begins to shift. His motivation evolves from pure vengeance to a commitment to protecting the Valley of the Wind and supporting Nausicaä’s mission of peace and coexistence. Milo becomes a loyal ally to Nausicaä and later to her mentor, Lord Yupa, accompanying them on journeys and using his mechanical skills to repair Nausicaä’s glider, the Mehve. His key relationships include his deep bond with his twin sister, his mother, and his growing friendship with Nausicaä, which replaces his initial hatred with a broader understanding.
