Nariya, also known as Naria, is an eighteen-year-old supporting character from the anime The Vision of Escaflowne. She is one of two leopard-girl twin sisters, the other being Eriya. Nariya has light skin and silver hair, distinguishing her from her twin. She and Eriya belong to the same beast-human race as the character Merle. Their parents were killed by humans due to prejudice against their kind when the sisters were children. After being cornered and forced to jump off a cliff, they were rescued by Folken Fanel, the strategist of the Zaibach Empire. This rescue forged a deep, unreciprocated love and unwavering loyalty to Folken, which became the central motivation for their actions.

Nariya serves as an elite soldier and Guymelef pilot under Folken’s command. Her allegiance to Zaibach stems solely from her devotion to Folken, not from any belief in the empire’s ideology. She pilots the Silver Teiring, a Guymelef specially designed for high-speed flight and attack missions. Through years of intense training, she became highly skilled in various forms of combat, with a particular expertise in Guymelef warfare. Her fighting style is precise and effective, and she carries out any task Folken assigns, even at great personal risk. Her twin sister Eriya is her constant partner in battle, and the two share an exceptionally close bond.

Nariya’s personality is characterized by extreme loyalty and dedication. She is willing to sacrifice her own well-being for Folken’s cause. Though often seen in a supportive role, she is a capable and determined fighter. Throughout the story, Nariya remains steadfast in her loyalty, showing no significant change in her allegiance or personal arc. Her role is that of a capable antagonist soldier who serves as a recurring obstacle for the protagonists, particularly in aerial and mecha confrontations. She does not possess any supernatural abilities beyond her race’s inherent traits; her strength lies in her combat training and piloting prowess.
