Description
Oliver Atton, who is known as Tsubasa Ozora in the original Japanese version, is the central character of Captain Tsubasa, and this description covers the young version of him: the elementary school boy who appears at the beginning of the story. At this stage he is about eleven or twelve years old and has recently moved to the city of Nankatsu with his mother.
His deep attachment to football began in early childhood. When he was barely a year old and still learning to walk, he was nearly struck by a truck while playing with a ball, and the football he held in front of him cushioned the impact and saved his life. From that day onward, the ball became almost an extension of himself, and he never parted from it, practicing constantly wherever he went. His father works as a sea captain and is often away at sea, so he is raised mainly by his mother. Shortly after arriving in Nankatsu, he discovers a local football pitch where the elementary teams of Nankatsu and Shutetsu are competing for the right to use the field.
