Description
Eledore Massis is a corporal in the Earth Federation Forces and a member of the 08th Mobile Suit Team during the One Year War. At 24 years of age, he is one of the older members of the platoon. Unlike the team's mobile suit pilots, Eledore serves in a support capacity as the driver and primary operator of the Type 74 Hover Truck.
Eledore possesses a carefree and outgoing personality. In his downtime between battles, he often appears to be a poor and undisciplined soldier, frequently slacking off, listening to loud music, and freely admitting that he feels he is not cut out for military life. This casual demeanor extends to his interactions with fellow soldiers, as he is known to be flirtatious, particularly towards his teammate Karen Joshua. He also gets along well with the similarly laid-back mechanic Jidan Nickard. On the battlefield, however, his attitude shifts completely; he becomes serious, focused, and reliable, taking his role as a support operator with full attention and even chastising his partner for being slow to react.
While he often shirks his duties to pursue personal interests, his primary motivation is a future career as a musician. He is an aspiring songwriter and submits his own compositions to contests. At one point, he receives a letter notifying him that one of his songs has made its major debut, a dream he fulfills even while recovering from injuries. His feelings for Karen Joshua also become a significant personal motivation, as he develops deeper feelings for her after a dangerous mission in which he is injured.
In his role within the 08th MS Team, Eledore provides essential reconnaissance and electronic warfare support. Despite lacking the glamorous role of a mobile suit pilot, his contribution is valuable. His primary weapon is not a gun, but his excellent hearing. Together with the advanced sonar sensors on the Hover Truck, he can detect moving objects and pinpoint their exact location, providing the team with crucial intelligence on enemy forces. He works closely with his partner, Michel Ninorich, who serves as the truck's co-pilot and gunner. Though the two are friends, their relationship is marked by constant bickering and arguments.
A defining characteristic that shapes his role is his claustrophobia, an intense fear of enclosed spaces that prevents him from piloting a mobile suit. This condition is demonstrated when he is forced to steal a Zaku Tank to escape from Zeon forces. Despite succeeding in his escape, his claustrophobia prevents him from closing the cockpit hatch, leaving him exposed and resulting in him being shot and wounded. This incident leads to a period of recovery, but he eventually makes a full return to the 08th MS Team. Through this and other dangerous situations, Eledore proves that despite his self-proclaimed lack of soldierly qualities, he is willing to put himself in harm's way when his comrades and the mission depend on it.
