TV-Series
Description
Pierre, known in English as Brock, is a major recurring character in the Pokémon anime. He comes from Pewter City, called Argenta in the French version, in the Kanto region, where he was the Gym Leader specializing in Rock-type Pokémon and awarded the Boulder Badge to trainers who defeated him. As the eldest of ten children, he took responsibility for raising his nine younger siblings and running the family gym after his parents left. He is introduced when Ash, the series' main character, challenges his gym and defeats him. Brock acknowledges Ash's sincerity in spite of the circumstances of the match, and when his father Flint returns home, he entrusts the gym and the family to him so that he can pursue his long-held dream of becoming the world's greatest Pokémon Breeder and see the world.

In terms of personality, Brock is calm, mature, patient, and dependable, often acting as the big brother and peacemaker of the traveling group. He handles most of the practical tasks of the journey, including cooking, cleaning, and caring for the group's Pokémon, and he is humble about his abilities, simply expressing satisfaction when others enjoy his meals. He has a strong sense of justice and a deep knowledge of Pokémon, which he uses to give thoughtful advice and to help injured or sick creatures. His most distinctive trait is his tendency to immediately fall in love with and flirt with any attractive older woman he meets, typically Nurse Joys, Officer Jennies, or other adult women, while showing no romantic interest in younger girls. This behavior is usually stopped by his companions, such as Misty, Max, or his partner Pokémon Croagunk, but he remains good-natured and is never genuinely unpleasant toward the women he approaches.

Brock's motivations evolve over the course of the series. His original dream is to become the top Pokémon Breeder in the world, and he works toward it by traveling, learning from breeders, caretakers, and scientists, and developing food suited to each Pokémon species. During his travels in the Sinnoh region, he repeatedly saves injured Pokémon, and after treating Pokémon poisoned during a voyage, he decides to become a Pokémon Doctor instead. He later studies at a Pokémon Doctor training school in Johto and eventually achieves his goal, working with his Blissey as his assistant.

His role in the story is significant, as he is Ash's first serious gym opponent and then one of his longest-standing travel companions. He travels with Ash and Misty through Kanto and Johto, briefly remains behind in the Orange Islands to assist Professor Ivy before rejoining them, and later accompanies Ash through Hoenn alongside May and Max, and through Sinnoh alongside Dawn. He leaves the main group at the end of the Sinnoh saga to pursue medical studies, and he makes guest appearances in later series, including the Sun & Moon anime, the Journeys series, and various specials, often reuniting with his former friends.

His key relationships center on his travel companions. He serves as a mentor and older brother figure to Ash, offering guidance and support in both battles and everyday life. His friendship with Misty is marked by their contrasting personalities, as she frequently cuts short his flirtations. He also develops close bonds with May, Max, and Dawn during their respective journeys. His family includes his father Flint, his mother Lola, and nine siblings, most notably his brother Forrest, who takes over the Pewter Gym in his absence. He shares strong ties with his own Pokémon, including Onix, which later evolves into Steelix, Geodude, Croagunk, Sudowoodo, and Chansey, which evolves into Blissey, among others.

In terms of abilities, Brock is an excellent cook and an accomplished Pokémon Breeder with a thorough understanding of Pokémon diets, habits, and care. He also has practical medical knowledge and can diagnose and treat injured Pokémon, skills that eventually lead him to his medical career. As a former Gym Leader, he is a capable battler, though his strengths outside combat are more often highlighted. He participates in various races, contests, and tournaments over the years, including winning a Pokémon lookalike contest with his Croagunk. His development across the anime shows him growing from a responsible young Gym Leader burdened by family duties into a skilled breeder and, finally, a dedicated Pokémon Doctor, while retaining the caring, mischievous, and flirtatious qualities that define him.
