Description
Afrodita, also known as Aphrodite, is the queen of the Angel World, a realm known as Tenshi Kai, and is revered as the goddess of love and beauty. Her character design is marked by her long, waist-length green hair and matching green eyes, and she is often depicted wearing a dress and a cape with a headdress.
As the sovereign of the angelic realm, Afrodita is a figure of great power and wisdom, but she is bound to her domain and is unable to leave the Angel World to directly intervene in conflicts on Earth. This limitation defines her role in the story, as she must operate from a distance, acting as a strategist and a source of divine guidance. Her primary motivation is to protect the human world and the Angel World from the forces of the Devil World, or Akuma Kai, which is ruled by the malevolent Queen Devila.
Afrodita's role is central to the series' premise. It was she who, foreseeing the threat of the Devil World, concealed the four sacred items known as the Saint Something Four on Earth to prevent them from falling into evil hands. These items are crucial for empowering the Love Angels and ensuring the ultimate safety of both worlds. To counter the devils' plans, she dispatches the angel Limone to Earth with the mission to awaken the human girls chosen to become the Love Angels. Throughout the narrative, she serves as a celestial advisor, communicating with the main protagonist, Momoko (Wedding Peach), and the other Love Angels through magical mirrors, offering crucial information, encouragement, and instructions when they face overwhelming danger.
Her most significant relationship is with Celeste, also known as Sakura Hanasaki in her human life. Celeste is revealed to be Afrodita's younger sister and the mother of Momoko. This makes Afrodita the maternal aunt of the series' protagonist, Wedding Peach, a connection that ties the fate of the royal angelic lineage directly to the central heroine. She also works closely with Limone, who acts as her direct agent on Earth, serving as both a guardian and a mentor to the young angels.
While Afrodita does not undergo a dramatic personal transformation over the course of the story, her actions have profound consequences for the other characters. She demonstrates the extent of her power in critical moments, such as when she rescues the angel Limone from a black hole, saving his life at the cost of erasing his memories of his angelic identity and his love for Angel Lily. Her most notable display of authority comes at the conclusion of the main conflict. Understanding that the Love Angels, particularly Momoko, have endured immense suffering, she grants them a wish. Following their request, Afrodita uses her power to erase all memories of the war, the Devil World, and their own identities as Love Angels, allowing Momoko, Yuri, and Hinagiku to live peaceful, ordinary human lives. This act of supreme compassion and control over memory is her signature ability, one she can both bestow and later reverse, as she reawakens their memories when a new threat emerges in the Wedding Peach DX OVA.
