Description
Edward Falcon, known in the original Japanese version as Edward Fokker, is the protagonist of the story. He is a 21-year-old aviator and prize fighter who hails from the town of Londo. Falcon is the son of the archaeologist Pride Falcon and travels the world in his beloved airplane, the Hockenheim. In terms of appearance, Falcon has short blonde hair and typically wears pilot goggles on his head. His standard outfit is a classic red pilot uniform with a white tie, paired with brown gloves and boots. The uniform features a flag logo on the left shoulder and a pale blue eagle emblem on the back. In the anime adaptation, his design has a minor variation where the flag logo appears without the usual red stripes.

Falcon’s personality is that of a noble and well-mannered young man with a strong sense of justice. He specializes in boxing and uses his sharp moves and explosive punches to vanquish evil. At the start of his journey, he can be somewhat hot-tempered, selfish, and acts as a casanova wannabe who often flirts with women he finds attractive. However, he grows over the course of the story, evolving from this brash individual into a competitive but compassionate hero with a heart of gold. Despite his flaws, he is generally regarded as being gentlemanly. In the anime, he develops a crush on a fortune teller named Rouge. However, his feelings are complicated by the fact that Rouge seems to have an interest in the samurai Ryoma, while another character, Ayame, develops feelings for Falcon that he does not initially reciprocate.

Motivation and role in the story are driven by the legendary Power Stones. The story begins when Falcon receives a package from his missing father, which turns out to be a Power Stone. These sacred stones have the ability to transform those who hold them into a superpowered form. Falcon sets out on a journey across various lands to find his long-lost father, Pride Falcon, and to uncover the secret of the Power Stones. Along the way, he encounters a variety of characters, including rivals like the samurai Ryoma who wishes to duel him, as well as ninjas and pirates who are also after the stones. His role is that of the central hero, seeking to reunite the stones and confront the main threat.

Key relationships define much of his journey. His father, Pride Falcon, is an absent-minded professor type whose archaeological work set the plot in motion. Falcon is also accompanied by his loyal butler, Apollis, who can be cowardly but is fiercely determined to follow and protect his master. His rival, Ryoma, serves as a blue oni to Falcon’s red oni, providing a serious counterpart to Falcon’s more impulsive nature. One of the central figures in his life is the wrestler Valgas. Falcon initially idolizes Valgas as his hero and wants to become the strongest fighter to emulate him. This relationship takes a tragic turn as Valgas becomes the main antagonist, corrupted by the power of a Dark Stone.

Throughout the narrative, Falcon undergoes significant development. Initially, he cannot even control his Power Change transformation, requiring a dedicated training arc to master it. He matures as he travels, becoming less of a spoiled brat and more humble thanks to the friendships he forms. This culminates in the final battle against Final Valgas. After being defeated, Falcon is able to summon the Light Stone to transform into the Light Whirlwind. In this form, he sports a white suit of metal with angelic wings on his back, allowing him to defeat Valgas and destroy the Dark Stone.

Falcon’s notable abilities come from his hybrid fighting style, which is loosely based on boxing but incorporates kicks and martial arts maneuvers. In the game, he is considered a balanced and easy-to-control fighter who can perform a double jump, making him agile. When he collects a Power Stone, he undergoes a Power Change to become the Red Whirlwind. In this powered-up state, he wears a red suit of metal armor with a rocket on his back. As the Red Whirlwind, he gains access to powerful attacks. These include the Homing Missile, where he fires seeking projectiles from his wrists; the Hurricane Aura, a rising uppercut surrounded by spiraling flames; the Missile Explosion, a powerful salvo of tracking missiles; and the Burst Rocket, a devastating charging attack that homes in on the opponent multiple times.
