Description
Elza, also known as Eluza, is a central character in the anime Gall Force Eternal Story, serving as the highest-ranking Solnoid military officer among the main survivors aboard the starship Star Leaf. She is the eldest member of the primary cast and holds the position of second in command, as the ship's captain is away on the fleet flagship when the story begins. Physically, Elza is depicted as an adult woman with pink hair cut to neck length and black eyes. Her name is derived from Elsa the Lioness from the film Born Free, following the series tradition of naming characters after animals.

By nature, Elza is a strict and resolute commander who believes in operating by the book. Her will is described as being very strong, and she places a high value on teamwork and the cohesion of her crew. This strength of character, however, also manifests as an inflexibility that directly contributes to her tragic destiny. She does not waver from her duties or from the protocols of the Solnoid military, even when faced with overwhelming and unconventional threats. Her motivation throughout the story is to fulfill her responsibility as the acting captain, protecting her remaining crew and completing their mission to reach the 9th System.

In the narrative of Eternal Story, Elza is forced to take command of the Star Leaf after a devastating Paranoid attack decimates the fleet and leaves her ship adrift with only a handful of survivors. Her role is that of the authoritative leader, giving orders and organizing the small group of Solnoid soldiers as they attempt to repair their ship and survive. She demonstrates notable combat abilities, being a highly competent fighter who wields a pistol and a rifle-shaped weapon. Despite her competence, her skills are ultimately insufficient against the new horror introduced by the enemy: a shapeshifting bioweapon. As the crew hunts the creature through the ship, Elza is separated from her team and becomes the victim of the alien, which impregnates her as a part of the Paranoids agenda. She later dies on the ship, explicitly refusing to allow the Species Unification Plan to succeed through her body. Her death serves as a primary motivation for the character Rabby, who witnesses Elzas fate and must make critical decisions afterward.

The character undergoes a limited but profound form of development through her tragic end. While she is established as a strong leader, her inflexibility and strict adherence to her role seal her fate, as she is unable to adapt to the unpredictable and grotesque nature of the bioweapon. In her final moments, however, her story takes on a deeper meaning when it is revealed that she was a failed attempt in the Species Unification Plan, a secret project intended to merge the warring Solnoid and Paranoid species. Both the Solnoid and Paranoid leaders had been using their own soldiers as test subjects for this plan, and Elzas death was a result of being one of these thousands of failures. This revelation recontextualizes her fate not just as a battlefield casualty, but as a deliberate sacrifice in a larger political scheme, adding a layer of tragic irony to her strict loyalty. Her key relationship is with Rabby, to whom she was close and whose carefree interactions with Elza suggest a camaraderie beneath the formal chain of command.
