Description
The King of Metallicana is the unnamed ruler of the kingdom of Metallicana and the father of Prince Lars Ul and Princess Sheila. He is depicted as a man of advanced years, characterized by his white hair, full beard, and mustache.

His personality is defined by a deep and abiding care for his country and its people, coupled with a strong protective instinct for his family, especially his daughter, Princess Sheila. This protective nature is made evident when he becomes very upset upon hearing the suggestion that his daughter should kiss Lucien Renlen in order to awaken the powerful and volatile wizard Dark Schneider. His motivations are rooted in the defense and preservation of his kingdom and his children.

Within the story, the King serves as a figure of authority and a representation of the kingdom under siege. During the attacks by the Dark Rebel Army, he is shown repeatedly attending strategic meetings with his advisors and military leaders, trying to formulate a defense against the overwhelming forces threatening his realm. As the conflict progresses and the battles take their toll, the King is seen sick in bed, suggesting the immense stress and perhaps physical toll of the war. His role becomes more passive over time, as he is not a frontline combatant but rather the symbolic heart of the nation he rules.

Regarding key relationships, his primary bonds are with his two children. His son, Prince Lars Ul, is a legendary warrior who famously defeated Dark Schneider fifteen years prior to the main events of the series. His daughter, Princess Sheila, is a central figure in the kingdom, and the King’s desire to shield her from danger and indignity is a notable character trait. He also interacts with his retainers, including the Knight Captain Bon Jovina, and depends on powerful allies like the high priest Geo Noto Soto to counter magical threats.

The King of Metallicana does not undergo a significant personal transformation but does experience a dramatic change in circumstance. As the story unfolds, his kingdom is ultimately destroyed by a massive explosion of power caused by the death of the dark priest Abigail. In this moment of catastrophe, he is transported to safety along with many of his citizens through the magic of Dark Schneider, a former enemy turned reluctant ally. His development is one of a ruler forced from his throne, witnessing the fall of everything he governs.

Two years after the destruction of his homeland, the King is seen again in a ruined church alongside his loyal knights. As a host of Angels manifests in the sky, a holy statue in the church begins to bleed from its eyes and crack apart. In this moment, the King reflects on an old prophecy, interpreting these terrifying omens as a sign of the coming destruction of the world. At this later stage, his role has shifted from a proactive ruler to a survivor observing apocalyptic events beyond his control.

The King is not noted for any personal combat abilities or magical powers. His authority is derived from his royal lineage and his role as the political and symbolic leader of Metallicana, which was one of the greatest human kingdoms and a keeper of one of the four seals of the dark goddess Anthrasax. His significance lies entirely in his position as the monarch and his relationships with the more powerful characters who drive the action of the narrative.
