Description
King Fawn is the ruler of the kingdom of Valis and a central figure in the history of the island of Lodoss. His background is that of a renowned and respected holy knight of Valis who rose to lead the order at a young age. He became one of the legendary Six Heroes, a group of adventurers who brought a temporary peace to Lodoss by defeating the Demon King thirty years before the main story. After this great quest, his heroic status helped him win the succession to the throne of Valis, as the kingdom traditionally chooses its king from the knighthood rather than by bloodline.

As a person, King Fawn is characterized by a strong sense of duty, honor, and a desire for peace. Unlike his former comrade Beld, who sought to unite Lodoss through military force from his dark island kingdom of Marmo, Fawn dedicated himself to uniting the land through diplomacy and just rule. He carries the weight of past decisions, particularly a deep and long-held guilt over the fate of a loyal knight named Tessius. When Fawn was compelled by political necessity to surrender his infant daughter, Princess Fianna, as a sacrifice to appease a dragon, Tessius secretly rescued the child. Fawn agreed to this plan, but to preserve the diplomatic agreement, Tessius took the blame and was sent to the front lines of a civil war, where he died in dishonor. This event haunted Fawn for years, and restoring the honor of Tessius and his son, the young warrior Parn, becomes a significant personal motivation.

King Fawn's primary role in the story is that of a wise and powerful king who stands as the main obstacle to Beld's invasion of Lodoss. He is a force of stability and righteousness, holding the line against the advancing armies of Marmo. His most significant relationship is with Beld, his former ally turned mortal enemy. Their tragic conflict represents the central schism of the War of Heroes, a clash between two former friends with opposing visions for the future of their world. Other key relationships include that with his daughter, Princess Fianna, and with Parn, whom he sees as a chance to atone for the wrong done to his father, Tessius. He is also an ally of King Kashue of Flaim, who fights alongside him against Beld's forces.

King Fawn’s character arc concludes on the battlefield, where he finally confronts Beld. The two legendary warriors duel, and Fawn is struck down by Beld's demon sword, Soul Crusher. However, immediately after his victory, Beld is killed by an arrow, allowing King Kashue to land the final blow. Fawn dies, a fallen hero whose loss marks a turning point in the war. After his death, he is buried on the battlefield with honor, and his legacy continues through his holy sword and the actions of those he inspired.

In terms of notable abilities, King Fawn is a supremely skilled warrior and swordsman. He wields the Holy Sword of Falis, a powerful magical blade that is the direct counterpart to Beld's demon sword, Soul Crusher. The two swords share a deep connection, and their power is said to increase when they are in each other's presence, making their final duel an event of great significance. As a former member of the Six Heroes, his combat prowess is legendary, placing him among the most formidable fighters of his age.
