Description
Rundelhaus Code, originally known as Rundelhaus Kode, hailed from a noble yet corrupt military family within the Ninetails Dominion. Disillusioned by his heritage, the third son idolized Adventurers for their freedom and justice. This drove him to emulate them, hiding his true identity as one of the People of the Earth—natives of Theldesia with inherently lower combat abilities and slower leveling. Through exceptional effort, he achieved a class level matching novice Adventurers, a rare feat for his people.

After the Apocalypse trapped Earth's Adventurers in Theldesia, Rundelhaus infiltrated a summer training camp run by Akiba’s Round Table Alliance. Posing as a human Sorcerer, he joined Touya, Minori, Isuzu, and Serara to challenge the Ragranda Forest dungeon. His initial persona was brash and narcissistic, marked by flamboyant English phrases and overconfidence, masking deep insecurities and fear of exposure. Isuzu discovered his secret but agreed to keep it after learning of his earnest desire to live as an Adventurer.

His defining act came during the "Return of the Goblin King" event, sacrificing his life to protect Choushi Town from goblins and dire wolves. As a Person of the Earth, death would have been permanent, but Shiroe intervened with an experimental Spirit Theory contract. This granted Rundelhaus the Adventurer subclass, enabling resurrection and altering his existence. Adopting the nickname "Rudy," he formally joined Log Horizon, becoming a bridge between Adventurers and the People of the Earth.

Motivated by protecting his people, Rundelhaus defended Saphir from wyverns during the Route 43 expedition, driven by trauma from his hometown's destruction. Witnessing the Odysseia Knights' disregard for Earthling lives intensified his resolve to challenge Adventurer prejudice. His bond with Isuzu deepened when she composed an original song ("the 43rd Song") to shield civilians, an act resonating deeply within Earthling culture's limited musical traditions.

Later, as a counselor for Earthling migrants in Akiba, Rundelhaus advised the Round Table. He highlighted the migrants' conservative values and self-perception as vulnerable refugees, insights crucial during the city’s governance crisis under Eins’s dukedom. His emotional maturity grew, evident when he disapproved of Isuzu pressuring Minori to confess romantic feelings during the Nightingale’s Song arc, recognizing her insensitivity. He remained perplexed, however, by Isuzu’s habit of physically striking him, misinterpreting it as an Adventurer custom.

Rundelhaus participated in high-stakes operations like the Shibuya Raid and faced the possibility of Adventurers returning to Earth during the Noosphere arc. At age 20, he prepared for potential farewells while continuing his role as a mediator. His character arc concludes with ongoing contributions to Log Horizon’s missions, embodying the synthesis of two worlds.
