Description
Priscilla "Priss" S. Asagiri is a nineteen-year-old member of the Knight Sabers and a central figure in the Bubblegum Crisis franchise. She is described in the original Megatokyo timeline as having slightly curly brown hair and red eyes, standing 1.68 meters tall and weighing 48 kilograms. In public life she is the lead singer of the underground rock band Priss and the Repliocants, and she is also a skilled motorcyclist who performs at small live venues before gaining wider recognition.
Her background is marked by early loss. Priss lost her parents in the Second Great Kanto Earthquake of 2025 and was raised in an orphanage, where her childhood was gloomy and lacking in warmth. She eventually ran away and joined a motorcycle gang. At age seventeen she was living on the darker side of Megatokyo, working as a small-time singer while riding her motorcycle and yearning for something more meaningful. Her life took a tragic turn when her boyfriend, the leader of her biker gang, was assassinated after discovering the secret of a powerful organization. The AD Police ruled his death an accident, which instilled in Priss a lasting grudge against law enforcement. Armed and enraged, she set out to hunt down her lover's killers, but was instead recruited by Sylia Stingray, who offered to channel her burning desire for vengeance.
Personality-wise, Priss is moody, defiant, and rebellious, with a strong anti-authoritarian streak. She is generally antisocial and can be a distrustful loner, and she has a quick temper. Beneath that tough exterior she is a kind and caring person with a good heart and a sense of humor, and she is deeply loyal to the few people she considers friends. She often depends on the emotional support of her fellow Knight Sabers, particularly Sylia, to get through her unhappiness. Her rebellious nature is tempered by this underlying warmth, which allows her to function within Sylia's demanding and disciplined operation.
Her motivation is rooted in grief and a desire for justice. The death of her boyfriend and the official dismissal of his murder drive her initial quest for revenge, which evolves into a broader fight against the boomers and the destructive technology that threatens the city. She fights with ferocious abandon and often displays little concern for her own safety, deriving a kind of release from battling boomers. In the Tokyo 2040 version of the character, she is portrayed as a Japanese-American vocalist living in a trailer truck in the slums, an even more isolated figure who is rarely seen with her fellow Knight Sabers.
Within the Knight Sabers, Priss serves as the group's heavy assault specialist and its strongest combatant. She is effectively the hammer of the outfit, in contrast to Sylia's leadership and genius, Nene Romanova's technological expertise, and Linna Yamazaki's athletic precision. Her combat gear is a dark blue Hard Suit equipped with a railgun in the right hand, a laser gun in the original series, and her signature knuckle bombers, explosive charges built into both hands of the suit. In the Bubblegum Crash continuation, the suit becomes a modular core system to which various selective heavy weapons can be attached. In the Crisis series, her Hard Suit can also combine with her Motoslave, a motorcycle that transforms into an automated mecha or an exosuit, allowing her to take on more advanced boomers.
Her key relationships shape much of her development. Sylia Stingray is the person who recruited her and remains a central anchor in her life. She forms strong bonds with the other Knight Sabers, Linna and Nene, and grows to rely on them despite her independent nature. She also shares a complicated love-hate relationship with AD Police officer Leon McNichol, a connection that reflects her contradictory feelings toward the authorities she distrusts.
Over the course of her appearances, Priss develops from an orphaned, grieving outsider seeking personal revenge into a more integrated and purposeful fighter. Her rebellious streak remains, but it is balanced by her loyalty, her growing trust in her teammates, and her commitment to protecting others. Her music and her combat life run in parallel throughout the story, with both serving as outlets for the emotional intensity that defines her.
