Description
Rickert serves as the youngest member of the Band of the Hawk under Griffith's command during the Hundred-Year War. His gentle and rational nature stands in contrast to the mercenary life. Initially idolizing Guts after being saved by him, Rickert's relationship with Guts matures into friendship. He shares a close bond with Pippin, who protects him during battles like Doldrey's recapture, leading to Rickert's subsequent ennoblement by Midland's king.

A year after Griffith's imprisonment and the Band's branding as outlaws, apostles attack Rickert's camp, slaughtering his unit. Due to a prior injury, he misses the Eclipse, remaining unmarked by the Brand of Sacrifice. Frozen with fear during the apostle assault, he is rescued by the Skull Knight, who later brings the unconscious Guts and Casca to him. Rickert takes them to safety at Godot's mine house, meeting Erica there. He begins forging swords as grave markers for fallen comrades.

For two years, Rickert stays with Godot, mastering engineering and blacksmithing while caring for Casca. He crafts Guts' cannon arm from Godot's supplies and upgrades Guts' arsenal upon his return. After searching extensively for a missing Casca, he later provides Guts with miniature bombs. Following the merging of the astral and physical worlds, Rickert escorts Erica to Falconia for refuge, fending off harpies and a cockatrice with a repeater crossbow during their journey.

In Falconia, Rickert reunites with Luca and confronts Griffith. Witnessing apostles engaged in blood sports, he slaps Griffith, denouncing his betrayal of the Band and proving Griffith's vulnerability. Though Griffith prevents immediate retaliation, the apostle Rakshas attacks Rickert the next night. Silat and the Tapasa intervene, saving him. Rickert prepares traps, injuring Rakshas in a subsequent attack. With Daiba's assistance, they escape on Garudas, and Rickert uses a self-built cannon to blast Rakshas mid-flight.

Later, Rickert appears aboard the Seahorse with Kushan allies. He assists in seizing the ship upon recognizing Guts among the passengers, advocates for Guts' release from a Kushan dungeon, and interacts with companions like Isidro and Puck. When trolls attack, he prepares to fight. Throughout these events, Rickert demonstrates exceptional engineering prowess, adapting weapons and devising tactical defenses against formidable foes. His moral compass drives his rejection of Griffith's new world order and protective instincts toward Erica and former comrades.
