Description
Brald Landon is a supporting character from the fantasy series The Beginning After The End. He is a veteran AA-rank adventurer who specializes in combat using a broadsword and shield. Brald stands approximately 1.8 meters tall and has a noble appearance, characterized by trimmed blond hair and sharp hazel eyes. He typically wears white metal armor that covers his shoulders and chest, complemented by a cape.

In terms of personality, Brald is known for his gentlemanly manners and confidence, often taking the lead in dangerous situations. He is generally a cautious individual who can lose his temper when party members disobey his precautions. However, under extreme stress, particularly when facing traumatic reminders of his past, he can become reckless and lose his composure. His background reveals that he led his own adventuring party alongside Reginald Bastion, Kriol Masser, and Kriol's fiancée Clara. The group went on countless adventures together and eventually achieved A-rank status. A significant tragedy occurred when Clara was killed during a dungeon exploration, an event that continued to haunt Brald.

Brald's primary motivation in the story revolves around completing a dangerous dungeon raid. Shortly after becoming an AA-rank adventurer, he conducted a solo exploration of the Dire Tombs, a dungeon infamous for undead mana beasts. During this solo raid, he discovered a hidden entrance that he believed led to an artifact responsible for the creatures' reanimation. He marked the entrance and retreated to form the Dire Tombs Exploration Party, assembling a team that included his longtime friends Reginald and Kriol, along with several A-rank and AA-rank adventurers including Arthur Leywin (known as Note at the time) and Jasmine Flamesworth. Brald serves as the initial leader of this expedition, demonstrating his experience and tactical knowledge as they navigate the dungeon's dangers.

His key relationships include his longtime teammates Kriol and Reginald, who have absolute faith in his leadership after countless adventures together. He was also deeply affected by the death of Clara, Kriol's fiancée, and this loss becomes a critical vulnerability during the dungeon exploration. Throughout the Dire Tombs expedition, Brald interacts extensively with other party members, including the antagonistic Lucas Wykes, whose disobedience and sabotage contribute to the mission's disastrous outcome.

Brald's development throughout the story arc is tragic. He begins as a capable, confident leader who provides clear orders and warnings to his party. However, as the expedition suffers casualties and he loses his right arm while protecting another adventurer named Samantha from a fiery eruption, his resolve begins to crack. He ultimately appoints Arthur as the new party leader, acknowledging that Arthur is more level-headed and capable of leading the group. When the party encounters the Elderwood Guardian, Brald is overwhelmed by traumatic memories of Clara's death and the stress of the situation, causing him to attack recklessly and lose his spirit. In a final act of bravery, he unleashes his full power to protect Elijah Knight, but the attack only injures the Elderwood Guardian without causing significant damage. With his spirit broken, Brald lays down his sword and is killed by the monster.

As an augmenter mage with a light yellow core, Brald specializes in fire elemental magic. He can engulf his armor and sword in flames to augment their strength, adjusting the level of heat to enhance his attacks. His flames are powerful enough to defend against an S-class Elderwood Guardian. He is a skilled swordsman whose combat style emphasizes defense, using his shield to protect himself before striking opponents. By augmenting his shield with fire, he can withstand extreme temperatures that would normally incinerate a person. As an AA-rank adventurer, Brald is capable of soloing dungeon raids and managed to explore halfway through the Dire Tombs on his own.
