Description
Hathaway Noa is a central character in the Universal Century timeline of the Gundam franchise, born in U.C. 0080 as the son of Earth Federation military officer Bright Noa and Mirai Yashima. His upbringing was marked by the turbulent times of the Gryps Conflict, during which he was briefly taken hostage. A pivotal moment in his youth came when he was rescued from drowning by the famous pilot Amuro Ray, an event that foreshadowed his later entanglement with the conflicts that defined his generation.
As a child, Hathaway was a hopeful and optimistic youth, but the chaos of war and his father's frequent absences due to military service left him with a lingering resentment towards adults and authority. The encounter ended in tragedy. In one timeline, Quess was killed by Chan Agi, causing an enraged Hathaway to attack and kill Chan in return. In the alternate novel version that serves as the direct prelude to his later story, Hathaway himself accidentally shot down Quess's mobile armor while trying to protect Amuro Ray. This event, coupled with the fact that he was hailed as a Federation hero for the kill, filled him with immense guilt, trauma, and a growing hatred for the corrupt adult world that celebrated such a meaningless victory.

Burdened by his past and disgusted by the present, Hathaway decided to take extreme action. He joined a nascent anti-Federation group and eventually became its leader, adopting the alias Mafty Navue Erin. Under this new identity, he leads the organization Mafty in a campaign of targeted assassinations and terrorism aimed at forcing humanity to abandon the polluted Earth and toppling the Federation's corrupt leadership.
