Description
His Purple Highness, whose real name is Tenma Nakaoji, is a pro hero who appears in the flashback story arc of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. He is the founder and leader of the Purple Revolution Agency, where he mentors young heroes-in-training from U.A. High School. The character is a direct and loving homage to the late musician Prince, a connection evident in his flamboyant style, his hero name, and the name of his agency, which references Prince’s band, The Revolution, and his iconic album and film Purple Rain.

In terms of appearance, His Purple Highness is a tall, slim man with long, dark hair tied in a ponytail, with lengthy bangs often covering the right side of his face. He sports a neatly trimmed mustache and goatee and is notably hairy-chested. His hero costume is a flamboyant two-piece purple suit with a frilled, open-chested jacket and epaulettes, accented by a belt with badges featuring the letter P.

His personality is as extravagant as his appearance. He is dramatic, flamboyant, and prone to theatrical poses and exaggerated reactions. He speaks in a flowery, poetic manner that reflects his unique personal style. However, beneath this ostentatious exterior lies a deeply serious and selfless hero who prioritizes the core tenets of the profession above all else. He strongly believes that a hero’s primary role is to provide hope and security to civilians, valuing the protection and evacuation of innocent people over the immediate capture of a villain. This philosophy becomes a central part of his teaching.

His Purple Highness plays a crucial role in the development of Shota Aizawa, the hero known as Eraserhead. When Aizawa, Nemuri Kayama (Midnight), and Oboro Shirakumo (Loud Cloud) are students, they perform their work studies at his agency. Recognizing Aizawa’s incredible talent but also his dour and antisocial demeanor, His Purple Highness makes it his mission to teach the young hero a vital lesson. He criticizes Aizawa not for tactical failures but for his gloomy expression, explaining that a hero who looks burdened and stressed will only spread anxiety to the very people they are meant to reassure. He urges Aizawa to smile and project confidence until it becomes genuine, a piece of advice that, while Aizawa never fully embraces it, informs his more pragmatic and grounded approach to heroism. He also demonstrates a keen eye for talent, praising Midnight and Loud Cloud for their quick thinking and dedication to protecting hostages during a training exercise, reinforcing his belief that a hero’s instinct to save lives is a greater asset than raw power or aggression.

His Purple Highness possesses a quirk known as Chest Hair. While its full range of abilities is not exhaustively detailed, a primary manifestation allows him to fire powerful, pinkish-purple laser beams from his chest, which emerge from his pectoral area. The use of this quirk is forceful enough to tear through his elaborate suit. Beyond his quirk, he demonstrates enhanced physical strength, capable of kicking a heavy safe high into the air. His most defining trait as a hero, however, is his profound spirit of self-sacrifice. This is most clearly demonstrated when the powerful villain Garvey rampages through the Tasomiya Ward. Despite knowing he has no chance of victory and that other heroes have already been defeated, His Purple Highness chooses to confront the villain alone. His only goal is to buy precious time for civilians to evacuate to safety, fully prepared to sacrifice his own life in the process. This act of selflessness has significant consequences, as he ultimately falls in battle against Garvey, an event that leaves his young trainees, including Aizawa, to face a major threat on their own.
