Description
Roa Kassidy, known as Roa Kirishima in the Japanese version, serves as the lead singer of the rock band RoaRomin and is Romin Kassidy's cousin. His appearance features a slim build, distinctive light green spiky hair styled in a "T" shape over his forehead, and purple eyes. He typically wears a dark magenta t-shirt with a light purple crossed sword symbol, light purple wristbands, black pants adorned with purple ribbons wrapped around the shins, and black shoes.
Roa projects an altruistic, confident performer persona, often grinning during duels and showing care for his fans. This facade conceals a deeply arrogant, opportunistic, and manipulative nature. Driven by ambitions to dominate Rush Duels, which he aims to rebrand as "RoaRush Duel," he declares himself the "Duel King." To secure advantages, he deploys underhanded tactics like spying on Yuga Ohdo through Romin and orchestrating scenarios to disqualify opponents. He notably manipulated a duel against Yuga to force the drawing of "Sevens Road Magician," believing its illegal status would trigger automatic disqualification. Despite these deceitful methods, he possesses genuine dueling skill when fully engaged.
His resentment towards Yuga originates from a pivotal incident: Roa witnessed Otes being disqualified from a Goha Corp-sponsored tournament for possessing "Sevens Road Magician" – later revealed as a pretext masking Otes' Goha affiliation, not the card's illegality. After this event, Roa received photos of Yuga from Romin in a darkened room; he smirked at the images while murmuring Yuga's name and "Rush Duel." This fueled his grudge, as Otes had given "Sevens Road Magician" to Yuga instead of him.
Roa duels with a "Royal Demon's" Deck, specializing in strategies designed to deplete the opponent's resources. His primary method involves sending cards from the opponent's hand to the Graveyard and forcing excessive draws to accelerate deck exhaustion. The deck utilizes high-level monsters with effects activated when Tributed for other high-level summons. Support cards like "King's Reward," "King's Tax," and "Royal Demon's Live Arena" reinforce this playstyle, symbolizing his self-proclaimed "Duel King" title.
His duel record includes both victories and defeats: losses to Yuga Ohdo (Episodes 12-13), Romin Kassidy (Episode 49), and Lucidien "Luke" Kallister (Episode 63); wins against Getta Taira (Episode 18), Mimi Imimi (Episode 44), Yuka Goha (Episode 61), and Asana Mutsuba (Episode 75). He later achieved a rematch victory against Yuga (Episodes 84-85).
Over time, Roa transitions from a rival to an ally of Yuga, participating in team battles for control of Rush Duels. This shift is reflected in media beyond the anime, such as the "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links" game, where he appears as a Legendary Duelist. In this adaptation, he utilizes skills like "Royal Rebel's Heavy Drive" and "Death Doom Requiem," synergizing with Fiend-Type monsters and high-level summons such as "Royal Rebel's Heavy Metal."
