TV-Series
Description
Michael Ostrog is a British serial killer who appears as one of the tattooed Abashiri convicts in the Golden Kamuy Final Season. He is a middle‑aged man of average build, with neatly cut blonde hair, sunken blue eyes, and a moustache paired with thick eyebrows. The series presents him as the infamous Jack the Ripper transplanted into the Japanese setting, using the name Michael Ostrog as his assumed identity.

His background is rooted in a history of brutal murders in London. He is a death row inmate who was among the prisoners tattooed with fragments of the map to the Ainu gold, though his primary driving force is not the treasure but his compulsion to kill. In the Sapporo arc, he begins murdering prostitutes in a pattern that mirrors the original Jack the Ripper killings, leading characters to initially believe he is a copycat. His personality is cold, methodical, and predatory; he operates with a quiet demeanor that masks a remorseless and violent nature. He shows no hesitation in attacking anyone, including young women and children.

In the story, Michael Ostrog serves as a major antagonist during the final season. His reign of terror in Sapporo throws the city into chaos and forces multiple factions—Sugimoto and Asirpa’s group, Hijikata’s old soldiers, and the 7th Division—to confront him while also pursuing the gold. His actions at the Sapporo beer factory become a pivotal event: he sets a large fire, attacks Asirpa, and engages in a brutal fight with Sugimoto. Sugimoto eventually kills him in a graphic struggle, with Ushiyama crushing his head after Sugimoto throws him from a window.

Key relationships are defined by conflict. He targets Asirpa directly, prompting Sugimoto to intervene with lethal force. He has no allies among the main cast, instead being a threat to everyone seeking the gold. His interactions are limited to violent encounters, and he does not develop alliances or undergo any significant character growth; he remains a terrifying, static force until his death.

Notable abilities include his expertise as a serial killer: he is stealthy, cunning, and knowledgeable about the methods of Jack the Ripper, which allows him to elude capture for a time. He is physically strong and dangerous in close combat, as demonstrated when he wounds Kadokura and fights Sugimoto inside the blazing factory. However, he relies on surprise and brutality rather than tactical cunning.

Michael Ostrog’s role in the Final Season is to heighten the tension and provide a visceral, historical horror element that interlocks with the race for the gold. His presence forces the protagonists to adapt and cooperate under pressure, but he himself remains a grotesque embodiment of violence with no redemption or deeper motivation beyond the act of killing.
