Description
Wol-Saeng, operating under the alias Moonphase, is a Korean player deeply immersed in the virtual reality MMORPG *Silla Empire*. He joins the Underworld conflict after encountering social media messages calling on Korean and Chinese players to counter alleged Japanese hackers attacking a test server for a new VRMMORPG developed by American, Chinese, and Korean volunteers. These messages frame the conflict as a defensive effort against Japanese players attempting to kill developers within the game world.

Upon entering the battlefield, Wol-Saeng observes discrepancies between the circulated narrative and the events unfolding. He notes the Japanese players appear desperate and defensive, contrasting with the American players' detached demeanor, as if treating the situation as a conventional game. This incongruity prompts skepticism. His doubts solidify during an encounter with Siune, a Korean-speaking member of the Japanese player group, who asserts the server is legitimately operated by a Japanese company and that Korean and Chinese players have been deceived into becoming tools of sabotage. Wol-Saeng directly questions Siune about evidence for her claims.

A pivotal moment occurs when Wol-Saeng witnesses PoH, the man in the black poncho, cruelly topple a wheelchair-bound Japanese player (Kirito) and subsequently order the execution of Klein, a samurai-armored Japanese player who attempts to intervene. Despite suffering severe virtual pain from a prior attack by PoH—pain intense enough to induce dizziness and near-incapacitation—Wol-Saeng overcomes his physical distress. He intercepts the killing blow aimed at Klein, blocking it with his own sword and shouting for a halt to the violence. This intervention is driven by revulsion toward PoH's actions and his growing belief in Siune's explanation. He vocalizes his unease to the Korean player poised to kill Klein, questioning the necessity of further punishment after the battle's conclusion and highlighting the senselessness of targeting a defenseless young man.

His defiance fractures the previously unified front of the Korean and Chinese players. Some label him a traitor and demand his death, while others echo his concerns about PoH's excessive brutality and call for reassessment. This internal discord spreads among the ranks, creating confusion and undermining PoH's authority at a critical juncture. Wol-Saeng's actions serve as a catalyst, shifting the battle's dynamics by exposing the manipulation behind the invasion and rallying a faction of players to reconsider their role. His character arc centers on critical observation, moral courage in challenging a manipulated narrative, and triggering a turning point through personal sacrifice and intervention.
