Description
Jeanne Orion serves as the headmistress of Royal Diana Academy, the prestigious magic school at the center of The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch. She comes from a long line of witches and was able to use magic freely from a young age. She studied at Diana Academy herself, and after graduating she became a teacher there. Because of her considerable strength as a mage, she was eventually chosen to lead the academy as its headmistress.

Jeanne is one of the most accomplished mages within the school, standing alongside Claude Sirius, the academy's most celebrated instructor, among its top-ranking sorcerers. She achieved first-class mage status at the age of nineteen, a remarkably early accomplishment, and at twenty she inherited the Zodiac Divine Staff, one of the three legendary artifacts known as the Three Divine Staves. Her exact age is never stated, and her appearance is notable for having remained youthful and almost unchanged since her student days and even since she first encountered Claude as a young boy.

Her past is closely tied to Claude's history. When Claude was a child and the leader of a gang, Jeanne captured him, and after reforming him she trained him in magic at Diana Academy. In this way she acted as his original teacher and mentor, making Claude effectively her former apprentice. Despite this history, the two are not on good terms in the present, and this strained relationship is part of the story's background as Claude returns to teach at the school under her authority.

In the story, Jeanne holds authority over the academy's students and faculty, and her decisions help shape the conditions under which the main characters study. Her willingness to take in and discipline a troubled child like the young Claude suggests a belief in correcting and cultivating raw potential rather than discarding it, and her sense of duty as head of the school appears to drive much of her conduct. Her judgment carries weight in matters such as the reinstatement of faculty and the oversight of the school's more difficult students.

As for notable abilities, her magical power ranks among the strongest shown at the academy. Her natural aptitude, inherited from her witch lineage, combined with her early mastery of first-class magic and her possession of one of the Three Divine Staves, establishes her as a genius-level mage. Her most unusual trait is her ageless youthful appearance, which has persisted over many years, setting her apart from the rest of the school's staff and suggesting abilities or circumstances beyond those of an ordinary witch.
