Description
Muhammad is the son of Fatima, a kind-hearted lady from a family of scholars in the city of Tus, Persia during the early 13th century. He is the heir of the household into which the young girl Sitara is sold as a slave. Muhammad is portrayed as intelligent and intellectually curious, harboring a dissatisfaction with only conservative theological lectures. This discontent drives him to leave his home and travel to Nishapur to further his studies in pursuit of a broader and deeper education. His words deeply move Sitara, particularly a statement about the importance of studying and becoming wise in order to navigate any trouble that may come one's way. This moment inspires Sitara to embrace the possibilities of knowledge and begin her own education, with a dream of one day catching up to Muhammad. In the narrative, Muhammad functions as a catalyst for Sitara's intellectual awakening and personal aspirations. His departure from Tus for Nishapur also creates a pivotal gap in the household, leaving the family vulnerable when the Mongol invasion strikes. Although he is not a central figure in the main revenge plot that unfolds in the Mongol court, his role as the heir of a scholarly family and his influence on Sitara's early development establish him as a foundational character whose impact is felt throughout her journey. Key relationships include his mother Fatima, who shares his scholarly values, and Sitara, whom he inspires through his example and words. His notable ability centers on his intelligence and his drive to seek knowledge beyond the confines of his local conservative environment.
