Description
Aria Holmes Kanzaki, alias Sherlock Holmes IV, serves as the series' main female protagonist. Born in England on September 23, 1992, to Kanae Kanzaki and Sherlock Holmes III, her lineage granted exceptional talent as a Butei from a young age. Trained in London, she achieved the elite Quadra title for dual-wielding guns and swords and earned the highest S-Rank status. She holds British nobility as a Dame with territory named "Baskerville." Surviving an assassination attempt three years prior left a bullet containing HihiIrokane embedded near her heart, unable to be removed. This caused her original flaxen blonde hair and sapphire blue eyes to gradually shift to pink and scarlet, respectively. The bullet also arrested her physical development, leaving her with a childlike stature of 142 cm (4'8") and 34 kg (75 lbs), a source of insecurity about her height and flat chest.
Physically, she possesses ankle-length pink hair, typically styled in twin pigtails secured by red horn-shaped hairpins—a traditional Holmes hairstyle aiding combat movement analysis. Her face features large red eyes and a prominent forehead, once displayed proudly with a gold heart-shaped hairpin until a mission scar forced her to conceal it. She primarily wears the standard Tokyo Butei High uniform with black thigh-length stockings, concealing two Colt M1911A1 pistols and kodachi swords beneath her skirt.
Personality-wise, Aria is haughty, outspoken, and socially inept, prioritizing herself while struggling with empathy. She despises words like "tired" or "impossible," viewing them as excuses masking fear of potential. Her aristocratic upbringing fuels a lack of understanding toward those less capable. Stubborn and demanding proof before acknowledging mistakes, she refuses to accept rejection, persistently recruiting Kinji Tohyama as her partner. Initially calling him her "slave" due to pride, she later values him deeply. Though celibate and dismissive of romance, she develops romantic feelings for Kinji, struggling to express them and exhibiting intense jealousy when other girls approach him. Her short temper manifests in frequent threats to shoot anyone who annoys her, especially regarding relationships.
Despite her flaws, she fiercely adheres to the Butei Charter principle of trusting others, risking her life for strangers and caring deeply for loved ones like her mother and Kinji. Possessing strong intuition but lacking her ancestor's deductive reasoning, she earned the moniker "Defective Holmes," often frustrated when others dismiss her intuitive conclusions due to her inability to articulate them logically. She enjoys cute things and sweets, particularly peach buns, and harbors a fear of thunder. Underneath her brash exterior lies emotional vulnerability; Kinji's early rejection hurt her profoundly, requiring significant effort to reconcile.
Her character development centers on forming relationships. Initially isolated, she recruits Kinji after he saves her from Riko Mine during a hijacking, their partnership solidified by a kiss activating his Hysteria Mode. She gradually opens up, forming Team Baskerville with Shirayuki Hotogi and Reki despite initial conflicts. Her primary motivation is exonerating her imprisoned mother, accused as the "Butei Killer," driving her detective work. Over time, she learns humility, acknowledges her limits, and values teamwork, advocating for Shirayuki's inclusion post-battle. Her loyalty faces tests when she distances herself from Reki over Kinji and confronts Kinji for reconciling too quickly with his violent half-sister Kaname.
In the spin-off *Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA*, she mentors E-rank student Akari Mamiya through the "Amica" system. While maintaining core traits—S-Rank prowess, temper, love for sweets—she demonstrates patience and leadership guiding Akari, reflecting her growth from a solitary fighter to a supportive senior. Her background, including the bullet's effects and lineage, remains consistent.
