Description
Lattice Nail, commonly called Latty, is a demon girl and the daughter of the Demon King in the fantasy world of the story. Despite her royal lineage and the enmity between humans and demons, she is remarkably open, outgoing, and full of energy. She travels under the nickname Latty and approaches the protagonist Akira Oda and his companions with a great deal of friendliness, showing no inherent hostility toward humans.

Her personality is defined by a strong moral compass and a deep aversion to killing. She once stopped Amelia from executing captured assassins, arguing that even criminals have their own stories and that no one has the right to cut those stories short, no matter how evil the person may seem. This desire to protect life and uphold what she sees as justice motivates her actions throughout the story. She aspires to be a champion of justice, a role she takes seriously, and she tries to avoid becoming a mere tool of war despite the political pressures surrounding her.

As the Demon King's daughter, Latty wields significant magical power as a Water and Fire Mage. Her dual elemental affinity allows her to cast both water-based and fire-based spells, making her a versatile combatant. She uses these abilities in support of Akira's party during their various missions and conflicts.

Her role in the narrative is that of a secondary ally who becomes increasingly integrated into Akira's group. She is initially stationed in the Yamato Country under a low profile, hiding her appearance with a cloak when going out. As the story develops, she faces a crucial decision: to remain uninvolved in the escalating human war or to stand with Akira and his comrades. Ultimately, she chooses to stay, accepting that this decision will likely involve her in the larger conflict. This choice reflects her growing bond with the party and her commitment to her ideals, even when they clash with her heritage.

Key relationships include her connection with Akira, whom she respects as a comrade and trusts enough to follow into dangerous situations. She also shares a friendly dynamic with Amelia, though their views on justice sometimes differ. Another significant figure is Commander Saran, a kind and handsome knight who served as her instructor; Latty gave him her first love, a sentiment she recalls with some nostalgia.

Throughout the series, Latty undergoes personal growth as she grapples with the realities of war, her identity as the Demon King's daughter, and her own desire for a just and peaceful path. Her development is marked by moments of vulnerability, such as her concern for Akira's wellbeing and her hesitation about being used as a political banner, but she ultimately reinforces her determination to remain true to her principles.
