Description
Gengen is a character from the Suikoden II game who appears in the Suikoden: The Anime adaptation. He is a young kobold, a race of anthropomorphic canine beings, and a warrior from Kobold Village in the Dunan Republic. Despite his youth, he is a dedicated soldier who fought in the Dunan Unification War, serving first as a member of a mercenary group led by the warrior Viktor before joining the New State Army.

Gengen has a bright and earnest personality, which has a calming effect on those around him. Though he still has much to learn and a long way to go before becoming a master warrior, his enthusiasm and loyalty make him a valued companion. His emotions are famously transparent and easily read through his physical tells; his tail stands up when he is happy, droops when he is sad, and his ears stand straight up when he spots something delicious to eat. This childlike earnestness has made him something of a familiar mascot within the mercenary fortress.

Driven by a strong desire to grow stronger and become a truly great warrior, Gengen is highly motivated to prove the might of the kobolds. His wish is to be seen as a capable and reliable soldier. After the Dunan Unification War, he achieves a part of this goal by becoming a captain in the Dunan Republican Army, continuing his service and working hard to live up to his new responsibilities. He holds a great deal of respect for the hero who led the army and looks up to them as a role model.

Gengen has a notable physical ability: he can stay underwater for up to fifteen minutes. In combat, he fights as an infantry captain. He has a rival back in his home village, and he is considered a hero by the other kobolds there, with the village chief expressing gratitude to those who took care of him. Alongside other animal-like warriors, he can participate in combination attacks such as the Kobold Attack.
