TV-Series
Description
Asuka Tenma is the elder brother of the protagonist, Tomoro Tenma, in the series. He is a young adult with light brown hair, red eyes, and a silver earring in his left ear. Asuka typically wears a red shirt over a white undershirt, blue jeans, a black belt, and beige loafers, often completing his look with a black wristwatch.
Before the events of the story, Asuka lived with his parents and younger brother in a happy home. However, when Tomoro was ten years old, their parents were arrested by the Ministry of Civil Protection for an unspecified crime, forcing the two brothers to leave their home. At the time, Asuka was seventeen and had been part of a band as a drummer. He was forced to quit both the band and school to take care of his younger brother. Despite these hardships, he maintained a caring and protective relationship with Tomoro, often encouraging him to follow his own unique path, or his own beat. Asuka has a friendly, teasing nature, such as playfully mispronouncing the word broccoli as bukkorii, a mistake originally made by a young Tomoro that Asuka continues to joke about.
In the world of Digimon Beatbreak, human thoughts and emotions generate an energy called e-Pulse, which powers AI devices known as Sapotama. Digimon are beings that feed on this energy, and some can completely drain a human of their e-Pulse, leaving them in a comatose state known as Cold Heart. Asuka was secretly aware of the existence of Digimon and the true nature of Cold Heart, as well as the fact that his brother possessed an exceptionally strong e-Pulse. He deliberately concealed this knowledge from Tomoro, hoping to maintain a peaceful life for them both.
His efforts to protect his brother from this reality ultimately fail. When a Digimon named Hyemon Scar tracks Tomoro's powerful e-Pulse to their home, Asuka tries to help his brother escape. During the confrontation, Asuka is captured by the Digimon, and his e-Pulse is completely drained, causing him to fall into a comatose state from Cold Heart. His body is recovered and taken to the World Union General Hospital, where he remains hospitalized and unresponsive in a special ward for Cold Heart victims.
Asuka's role in the story is a primary motivator for his brother, Tomoro. After Asuka's attack, Tomoro joins a group of Digimon tamers called Glowing Dawn, who hunt rogue Digimon for bounties, hoping to find a way to save his brother. Asuka had previously taken steps to protect Tomoro in the event of his absence, having made arrangements with Kyo Sawashiro, the leader of Glowing Dawn, who is an old acquaintance of Asuka's, to look after his brother. Tomoro regularly visits Asuka in the hospital, and a key emotional moment occurs when Tomoro gifts him a red scarf, reminiscent of one Asuka had given him years prior, and introduces him to his partner Digimon, Gekkomon, as a new member of their family. While Asuka is largely incapacitated for most of the narrative, his past actions, his deep care for his brother, and his current state serve as the emotional core and driving force for the series' central conflict.
