Description
Chamblemon is a supporting character from the anime Digimon Beatbreak, primarily appearing in the early narrative as the partner of the Cleaner Shiitake. It is a mushroom-like, plant-type Digimon of the Adult/Champion level, possessing a Virus attribute. Its name is derived from the French word for mushroom, champignon. In terms of physical design, Chamblemon resembles a sizable, magenta-colored mushroom with a white cap, yellow eyes, and a compact, sturdy body. It is typically depicted wearing black gloves adorned with a skull-and-crossbones pattern and matching black boots, both fastened with belts.
As a species, Chamblemon is described as being highly toxic. While it may appear weak at first glance, it is a formidable opponent that thrives on the carelessness of others. Its primary method of attack involves releasing floating spores known as Sweet Spore. If an enemy approaches without caution, these spores attach to them, drain their vitality, and cause mushrooms to sprout from their body. Consuming these mushrooms is said to restore energy, with data-type mushrooms being considered especially delicious. Its signature technique is the Chamble Bomb, which launches numerous mushroom-shaped explosives of varying sizes. The resulting explosion and released spores can transform an entire area into a bed of mushrooms.
In the story of Digimon Beatbreak, Chamblemon is the original partner of Shiitake, the leader of a three-man Cleaner group known as the Kinoko Gang, which operates in the bay area of Hikarigahama City. The gang, which also includes Shiitake's companions Shimeji and Eringi with their Mushmon partners, primarily hunts Digimon with low bounties. Chamblemon plays the role of an initial obstacle for the protagonists. It first confronts the main character Tomoro Tenma and his partner Gekkomon, using its spore ability to drain Gekkomon's e-Pulse energy before being driven off by the intervention of another group, Glowing Dawn.
The character's primary narrative function is to serve as a tragic loss that motivates Shiitake. Shortly after the Kinoko Gang's debut, they encounter the powerful Digimon Hyemon Pierce. In the ensuing battle, Hyemon attacks Shiitake and deletes Chamblemon, permanently destroying it to protect its partner. This event is a pivotal moment for Shiitake, who is left grieving over the loss of his partner. The gang is subsequently forced out of their territory and their fortunes decline, which directly fuels Shiitake's bitterness and his desire for revenge against those he blames for his misfortune, setting the stage for a later story arc involving a new, more aggressive partner.
Due to its early deletion, Chamblemon does not undergo a significant character arc of its own. Its personality, as inferred from its role, is that of a loyal combatant, willingly engaging in the gang's mercenary work as a Cleaner. Its key relationships are exclusively with its human partner, Shiitake, for whom it fights, and with the other members of the Kinoko Gang. After Chamblemon’s death, Shiitake obtains a new Sapotama device. While he initially hopes for his partner to return, the feelings of anger and revenge that dominate his emotions instead cause the birth of a different Digimon, RedVegiemon. However, the narrative strongly implies that RedVegiemon is a corrupted reincarnation or evolved form of Chamblemon, as its energy takes on Chamblemon's silhouette before fully manifesting. In this sense, Chamblemon's legacy directly influences Shiitake’s eventual turn away from vengeance and the reformation of his group into the Nirinso Defense Force.
