Description
Akira Akao is a young woman who becomes a first-year student at the Japan Criminal Creche, an elite academy for assassins. She is the niece of Rion Akao, a legendary former assassin who was a close friend of the retired hitman Taro Sakamoto. Akira bears a strong physical resemblance to her aunt, with turquoise hair that fades to lilac at the ends, which she typically wears in a messy low ponytail, and yellow eyes with distinctive white pupils.

In terms of personality, Akira is initially presented as shy, gentle, and considerate, often appearing awkward or nervous in unfamiliar situations. She dislikes violence and confrontation, preferring peaceful solutions and admitting that she is afraid of real combat. Her sensitive nature is further highlighted by her hatred of swimming and her discomfort at the sight of blood, traits that make her seem ill-suited for the assassin's life. Despite this timid demeanor, Akira possesses a strong hidden resolve and a fierce determination, particularly when those she cares about are threatened. In such moments, a more bloodthirsty side can emerge, allowing her to act with deadly precision and little hesitation.

Akira's primary motivation is her connection to her aunt, Rion Akao. After Rion's mysterious disappearance and subsequent death at the hands of the killer Kei Uzuki, also known as X, Akira is driven to uncover the truth about what happened. This desire for answers and vengeance is what pushes her to take the JCC entrance exam, believing that entering the world of assassins will lead her to her aunt's whereabouts and, eventually, to her killer. She seeks to follow in Rion's footsteps and prove herself worthy of her family's legacy.

Within the story, Akira is introduced during the JCC transfer exam arc, where she participates alongside other candidates, including Sakamoto and Shin Asakura. Her role evolves from a promising new recruit to a character whose lineage and abilities tie directly to the series' deeper history. A key relationship is with Taro Sakamoto, who becomes a mentor figure after he recognizes her surname and realizes she is the niece of his old friend and former teammate, Rion. She also forms a budding friendship with Shin Asakura, connecting with him over their shared struggles and working together to overcome challenges. Her relationship with the filmmaker Kanaguri is an uneasy alliance; after learning of Rion's death, Akira agrees to become the lead in his work in exchange for him taking her to Kei Uzuki, her aunt's killer, setting her on a darker path of revenge.

Throughout her journey, Akira undergoes significant development. She begins as a timid girl who is conflicted about her assassin heritage and hesitant to use force. However, after the tragic revelation of her aunt's murder, she abandons much of her previous innocence and embraces her potential for violence, choosing to leave the JCC behind to pursue vengeance. Her time at the academy and her encounters with Sakamoto and Shin help her grow, blending her domestic warmth with the resolve of an assassin, creating a character who represents a coexistence of compassion and lethal strength.

Akira possesses several notable abilities. Her most distinctive skill is the ability to see paths, an assassination technique taught to her by her aunt Rion. This power allows her to visualize imaginary lines that represent the most effective routes or actions to take to eliminate a target. She can perceive multiple paths simultaneously, which gives her a significant tactical advantage in combat. However, when faced with an overwhelmingly powerful opponent, she may perceive an impassable cliff instead of clear paths, causing her to hesitate. Beyond her combat ability, Akira is exceptionally skilled at sewing and other household tasks. This talent proves critically useful, as she can sew with incredible speed and improvisation, once creating a functional parachute from her companions' clothes while free-falling from a sabotaged airplane to save everyone. Her speed and reflexes are also highly developed, allowing her to close distances with opponents quickly and perform precise maneuvers. While her primary strength is strategy and technique over raw power, her hidden potential and unique abilities make her a formidable presence.
