Description
Alec Ygret is the central protagonist of the story, a young man whose life takes a dramatic turn after being dismissed from his position as a court magician for the Galdana Kingdom. A genius mage who graduated at the top of his class from the royal magic academy, Alec is a prodigy whose true potential was hidden during his professional service. He is known by the nickname the Five-Colored Magician for his ability to simultaneously cast spells of different elements, a skill he once demonstrated by defeating a five-headed hydra.

Alec's background is steeped in a notable heroic lineage. He is the son of Aria Ygret, a renowned mage, and his ancestor, Lucia Ygret, was one of the legendary Ten Strongest who sealed away a powerful goddess. His childhood was marked by tragedy when his mother died protecting a young Eldas Mikayla, a mage who would later become Alec's mentor. This event created a complex, emotionally distant relationship with Eldas, who carried guilt over her death.

After the death of his mother, Alec was trained by Eldas. Despite his mentor's warnings, Alec became a court magician with a personal goal to change the royal court from within, hoping to make his mentor proud. However, his four years of service were defined by frustration. He was assigned to support the weak Crown Prince Regulus, who ordered Alec to focus solely on enhancement and support magic and forbade him from using any flashy offensive spells that might outshine the prince. This forced specialization led others to wrongly label him as an incompetent mage who only knew support magic, culminating in the ungrateful prince banishing him from the court.

In terms of personality, Alec is a sensible and studious individual with the heart of a true hero. He is fundamentally a caring person who always puts others first, but he also possesses an airheaded and somewhat clueless goofiness that persists throughout his journey. He is notably oblivious to the romantic feelings his close friend Yorha has for him for a significant period. Despite his immense power, he is marked by a great deal of modesty regarding his own strength, though this trait can occasionally become pronounced. Beneath his polite and helpful demeanor, he holds a hidden disdain for Prince Regulus for his ungrateful and arrogant behavior, though he is later able to acknowledge the prince's growth and maturity.

Following his banishment, Alec's role in the story shifts dramatically. He is quickly recruited by his old academy classmate, Yorha Eisentz, to reform their legendary student adventuring party, Lasting Period, which also includes their friends Krasia Annerose and Ornest Rain. Reunited with his true companions, Alec returns to his natural role as an offensive magic specialist. This change allows him to flourish, and the party is quickly promoted to S-rank. His motivations evolve from seeking to reform the kingdom to proving his worth as a mage and adventurer alongside his friends, eventually aiming to become the strongest.

Key relationships define his journey. His bond with his mentor, Eldas, is strained by past tragedy but rooted in mutual respect. His relationship with Prince Regulus is one of the story's core conflicts, moving from a master-servant dynamic defined by exploitation to a more honest, if still tense, acknowledgment of past wrongs. His relationship with his old party is that of true companions; they are a tight-knit group that easily accepts him back and supports him as he recovers from the trauma of his time at court. He also develops a close, eventually romantic, relationship with Yorha, who has been a constant presence since their childhood, as Alec once saved her from a monster without her realizing it at the time.

Alec undergoes significant development. Initially viewing his four years as a court magician as a total waste, he later learns that the king was using his time with the prince to evaluate and change the kingdom's discriminatory policies, which reframes his suffering as having a purpose. He also works through his issues with Regulus, culminating in a duel where he easily defeats the prince, finally demonstrating his true strength. In a major turning point during the Flying Fortress Arc, Alec loses an eye, after which he begins wearing an eyepatch and continues his adventures.

Alec's notable abilities are extensive. His signature and most commonly used spell is Thunderbolt, which he can cast with incredible speed and efficiency. For more powerful attacks, he uses spells like Vajra, the meteor-summoning Meteor, and Sacrificial Blaze, which takes the shape of a massive fire dragon. He is also skilled in defensive and reflective magic, such as the Attack Reflector spell Reflect. Beyond his magical prowess, he is a skilled sword fighter and, after receiving the artifact sword Schwart from a character named Loki, becomes a Magic Knight who uses the blade for the rest of the series. His talent for learning is near-instantaneous; he mastered support magic from scratch after the prince demanded it and learned ancient magic and runes simply by reading a book. He also possesses a powerful Magical Eye, which was sealed by a goddess at his father's request after his mother's death, only to be unsealed for the final battles.
