Description
Soratsugu Madoka, known as Enchu, studied Magic Law alongside Toru Muhyo and Yoichi Himukai under instructor Page Klaus. He possessed blue hair reaching his shoulders, large blue eyes (purple in anime adaptations), fair skin, and wore a white cloak over his Magic Law School uniform, an appearance often described as beautiful or pretty. His initial personality was polite, sensitive, intelligent, studious, and effeminate.
Driven by the goal of becoming an Executor to support his sick mother, Enchu dedicated himself to his studies. However, Muhyo was selected for the Executor position instead, due to Enchu's perceived preoccupation with his mother's illness and Muhyo's natural talent for prioritizing others. Enchu suffered a mental breakdown upon returning from preparing for the exam to find Muhyo promoted, compounded by his mother's death during his absence.
This loss and perceived betrayal drove Enchu to madness. Discovered by Teeki, a practitioner of Forbidden Magic Law, he was recruited into the forbidden magic association Ark. As its leader, Enchu, he wielded forbidden magic to control evil spirits and gain inhuman abilities, such as generating multiple forearms. His descent into villainy manifested as sadistic behavior and a consuming desire to make Muhyo suffer, declaring that Muhyo's "pain could save him" and vowing to "sell the world to Hades" to hear Muhyo's screams. He orchestrated attacks against the Magic Law Association, including a fire at the Arcanum prison.
Despite his actions, Enchu displayed traces of compassion, retreating to save Rio Kurotori during her "ghosting" transformation and expressing that practicing forbidden magic felt "better with friends." After a confrontation with Muhyo's group freed him from Teeki's influence, Enchu expressed remorse. He confessed his love for Muhyo, stating "Daisukidayo Muhyo" ("I love you, Muhyo"), though this dialogue was censored in some English manga translations.
Following his redemption, Enchu accepted punishment for his crimes and received a sentence of indefinite imprisonment in the Arcanum. There, he returned to his original kind, helpful, and sensitive personality, resuming his study of Magic Law with the goal of becoming an Executor, even if achieved in old age. Friends like Yu Abiko (Biko) frequently visit him; Biko brings baked bread and soup, while others provide tea, homemade jam, tofu, and dried fruit with honey—his preferred foods. Enchu occupies his time with hobbies including needlework, endurance reading, and remains the sole person capable of comprehending Page Klaus's poetry. He also retains a unique connection to Muhyo, being one of the few individuals able to wake him from deep spirit root comas by whispering in his ear.
