Description
Ramiris is a small fairy-like being who serves as the Queen of the Dwelling of Spirits and holds the title of Demon Lord, making her one of the oldest demon lords in the world alongside Guy Crimson and Milim Nava. In her current form she resembles a tiny pixie with blonde pigtails decorated with green streaks, yellow eyes, small red-pink marks at the corners of her eyes, white wings, and a black dress with a yellow belt. She is small enough to rest on a flower and can easily be mistaken for an ordinary fairy because of her complete lack of physical presence.
Her humble appearance hides a much grander origin. She was originally a Spirit Queen, an elemental being created by the Star King Dragon Veldanava to serve as a manager of the world. In that role she preserved the balance of nature and acted as a guide to saints, bestowing divine protection upon heroes. Her life changed long ago when Milim lost control of herself during a battle with Guy that lasted seven days and seven nights. Ramiris intervened to stop the conflict and absorbed the immense, corrupting power released by the two fighting demon lords. The effort cost her most of her strength and caused her to fall from her sacred state, transforming her into a fairy and making her the third of the original demon lords.
Since that fall, Ramiris has lived through a cycle of reincarnation. When her magical energy approaches its limit, she gives birth to a successor who inherits her memories and power, and she is reborn as a child again. This cycle explains why she looks and behaves so young. Her personality is playful, mischievous, impulsive, and childlike, and she tends to boast constantly about her strength even though those around her know she is among the physically weakest demon lords. She loves attention, enjoys sweets, and often talks more boldly than her abilities would suggest. Beneath her bravado, however, she is genuinely intelligent, especially in the field of spirit engineering, and she has completed technological projects that even dwarf and elf craftsmen had abandoned as impossible.
Her motivations are tied to her original duty as a world administrator. She remains devoted to the spirits, fairies, and dryads under her protection, and she takes her role as the Fairy of the Labyrinth seriously, using her powers to create vast subspaces meant to safeguard the world. After meeting Rimuru Tempest, she becomes a loyal ally. She helps Rimuru summon a high-ranking spirit to save a group of children, she warns him about the demon lord Clayman's schemes before the Walpurgis gathering, and she stands beside him during the conflict that follows. This willingness to help others makes her an unusually approachable and supportive demon lord compared to her peers.
Following her alliance with Rimuru, Ramiris moves to the nation of Tempest, where she is allowed to build a hundred-floor underground labyrinth beneath the town's arena. The labyrinth becomes both her residence and a crucial asset to the country. It attracts adventurers as a tourist attraction, serves as a training ground, and functions as a nearly impenetrable defensive structure during invasions. Within her labyrinth she possesses the ability to reshape the rules of the space, revive those who have fallen, teleport people freely, and even move an entire city if enough magical energy is available. This Unique Skill, known as Labyrinth Creation, makes her extraordinarily powerful within her own domain despite her personal weakness in direct combat. She also runs research facilities where she applies her knowledge of spirit engineering, and she commands the loyalty of Beretta, a guardian doll inhabited by a high-ranking demon, as well as the dryads Treyni and Trya.
Her key relationships reflect both her ancient past and her present life. As one of the three original demon lords, she is deeply respected by Guy and Milim, who remember her sacrifice and treat her with warmth and protection. She develops a close friendship with the Storm Dragon Veldora, and the two become frequent companions through their shared love of reading manga. She also grows close to Rimuru, transforming from an eccentric stranger into a trusted friend and an important supporter of Tempest, and she considers many of the other demon lords to be friends as well.
Ramiris undergoes meaningful development over the course of the story. Once a lonely figure who spent long periods in isolation, she gradually gains companions, duties, and a sense of belonging. The construction of the labyrinth gives her meaningful work, her subordinates and friends give her companionship, and her bond with Veldora gives her a genuine confidant. When she matures into adulthood within her reincarnation cycle, her power grows vastly greater, and in her earlier adult state she was strong enough to confront overwhelming opponents and influence conflicts between the mightiest beings in the world. In her childlike state, however, she is content to live a far simpler life. Her story is defined by the contrast between her small, playful exterior and the ancient, world-important role she once held, and her journey shows a being who lost her former glory through self-sacrifice but found a new home, a new purpose, and a new family in return.
