Description
Arumi Ashimine manifested as a crystal ball tsugumomo within a residence alongside scissor tsugumomo Akito Ashimine and die tsugumomo Hifumi. The three swore siblinghood under their master. After decades of service, their master exploited Hifumi's fate-manipulation abilities, causing her severe physical deterioration. Witnessing this abuse, Arumi and Akito alerted villagers, resulting in a mob killing their master and destroying Hifumi. Forced to kill in self-defense when targeted next, Arumi and Akito lost faith in humans, enduring fourteen abusive owners before discovering Mayoiga via a red bowl in a river.
Entering Mayoiga, they faced initial hostility from gatekeeper Yasuki Yatsukawa but were welcomed by leader Tanmen. They embraced the community as sanctuary. Years later, Tanmen revealed Mayoiga's reliance on a weakening stone shard, necessitating theft from a weakened land god. Arumi agreed to assist, employing her monthly divination ability "Peaking Ahead" to locate a target. After nearly thirty years without success, her prediction detected a black mass near Kamioka mountains. A team including Arumi captured this mass—identified as obi tsugumomo Azami—whose information prompted an infiltration mission at Kamioka East Middle School. There, Arumi joined Akito, Yasuki, and Mimane Miyou to create aberrations and weaken local god Kukuri.
During the infiltration, Arumi guided operations with her abilities. She appeared to exorcist Kazuya Kagami in a bathroom, delivering cryptic clues about a shoe amasogi through a fairy tale he initially perceived as a ghostly encounter. Her predictions frequently shaped strategy, though "Peaking Ahead" remained limited to monthly use and inflicted significant strain.
Trapped with Akito, Kazuya, and Kiriha in a love-themed game during the Wakana Wakisaka amasogi incident, Arumi lost most clothing after incorrect answers to increasingly intimate questions. When asked whom Akito loved most, Arumi answered for him, implying their deceased sibling Hifumi—exposing lingering trauma.
After Mayoiga's failed assault on Kukuri and Azami's betrayal—which revived Kanaka Kagami using Miurahi's stone shard—Arumi and Akito witnessed Mayoiga's defeat. Captured and taken to Tsuzura Temple, temple master Masuji Madarai exploited Arumi's divination via puppet bindings, forcibly fusing her with Mimane and other tsukumogami to enhance her powers for future predictions and combat in the Nine Masters Tournament. This fusion caused excruciating pain during ability use and severely damaged her soul. Following Kazuya's defeat of Madarai, temple elder Ouhi repaired the souls of Arumi and other Mayoiga members, requiring a temporary deal with Madarai for restoration. Post-recovery, Arumi reunited with Akito.
Under Ouhi and Ouna's temporary ownership, Arumi's divination guided Kazuya's training assignments, including resolving cases like Mami Mamisaka's. Her abilities continued providing strategic foresight, such as assessing the stability of Kanaka Kagami's seal.
Arumi maintains a quiet, modest demeanor and flusters easily in lewd situations. Despite this reserve, she conceals deep romantic and sexual feelings for Akito. Her loyalty to Mayoiga and her found family remains a core motivation, persisting through manipulation and trauma.
