TV-Series
Description
Mutsumi Wakaba is a first-year student at Tsukinomori Girls' Academy and the rhythm guitarist for the band Ave Mujica, where she performs under the stage name Mortis. She was previously a member of the band CRYCHIC. Mutsumi is the daughter of a popular comedian father and a famous actress mother, and she grew up in a household that frequently hosted celebrities. She has been playing guitar since early childhood and is a highly skilled musician. Her stage name, Mortis, is derived from the term Lacus Mortis, meaning Lake of Death.

Mutsumi is notably stoic and a girl of few words. She has great difficulty expressing her emotions, which can cause her to come across as blunt or insensitive even when she intends to be kind. Despite her reserved exterior, she possesses a genuine, caring nature and is deeply affected by the events around her. This hidden emotional intensity becomes a central part of her character as the story progresses.

Her primary motivation stems from a desire to support and protect those she cares about, especially her childhood friend Sakiko Togawa, whom she has known since kindergarten. Mutsumi struggles internally with the pressure of her own feelings and the demands placed on her by others, often feeling torn between loyalty, fear, and her own unspoken pain.

Within the story, Mutsumi is a key member of Ave Mujica whose quiet presence masks a profound internal conflict. The psychological strain she endures leads to the development of dissociative identity disorder, resulting in the emergence of a split personality named Mortis. This alternate personality acts as a protector, taking control to shield Mutsumi from further mental trauma. The dynamic between Mutsumi and Mortis drives much of the psychological drama in the series, with the two personalities eventually confronting each other and ultimately reconciling before appearing to vanish together.

Mutsumi's most significant relationships include her bond with Sakiko Togawa, whom she has known since childhood and whose turbulent journey deeply influences her own. She is also classmates with Soyo Nagasaki, and their shared history from CRYCHIC adds complexity to their interactions. Within Ave Mujica, she interacts with her bandmates Uika Misumi, Umiri Yahata, and Nyamu Yutenji, each relationship contributing to her personal struggles and growth.

Over the course of the series, Mutsumi develops from a quiet, emotionally repressed girl into someone who confronts her own inner turmoil. The emergence of her split personality forces her to face the pain she has long suppressed, leading to a dramatic internal battle and eventual acceptance of all parts of herself.

In terms of abilities, Mutsumi is a proficient rhythm guitarist who has been playing since childhood. She also has training in ballet, adding to her physical discipline and stage presence. As Mortis, she exhibits a more assertive and protective persona, capable of taking decisive action to defend Mutsumi from harm.
