Description
Mika is the manager of Café LycoReco, the front operation for the intelligence organization Direct Attack. He is an adult man with long black hair, some of which is tied into braids at the back of his head, a beard, and green eyes that he often covers with black-framed glasses. He typically wears a mix of Japanese and Western clothing, reflecting the café’s traditional Japanese aesthetic with a modern twist. He is forty-eight years old and was born on July 13.

Before running the café, Mika was a top instructor and commander within Direct Attack. In that role, he was entrusted with the care of Chisato Nishikigi, a young Lycoris agent whom he raised and eventually became a father figure to. Although he initially resisted taking on the responsibility because he did not have a natural fondness for children, he gradually grew into a devoted surrogate parent. He now watches over Chisato and the other café employees with a gentle but firm hand, lamenting his worsening eyesight as he ages.

Mika’s personality is calm, observant, and quietly supportive. He rarely raises his voice and prefers to guide his charges from behind the scenes. He is shown to be protective, often planning and executing covert operations to keep the café’s residents safe, such as orchestrating the fake death of the hacker known as Walnut. He is also revealed to be gay; this is discovered by Chisato and Takina when they mistakenly follow him on what they think is a date.

His motivations center on protecting Chisato and maintaining the peace of the life they have built together. He harbors knowledge of Chisato’s past, including her connection to the Alan Institute and the artificial heart that keeps her alive, and he works to shield her from the darker elements of that history. His primary role in the story is that of a mentor and caretaker, providing a stable base of operations for the protagonists while occasionally stepping into the action when necessary.

Key relationships include his deep bond with Chisato, whom he raised as his own, and his complicated history with Yoshimatsu, a figure from the Alan Institute. Mika also works closely with former DA agent Mizuki Nakahara and the coffee shop’s regular customers, maintaining a quiet authority over the household. Over the course of the series, Mika’s development is subtle; he remains a constant, reliable presence, but his past as a soldier and his ongoing efforts to protect those he cares about give him a layered backstory. He possesses no supernatural abilities, but his skills from his time as a DA instructor and commander make him a competent strategist and fighter when the situation demands. In the short film series Lycoris Recoil: Friends are thieves of time, Mika appears as a supporting character, continuing his role as the café manager who oversees the everyday lives of Chisato, Takina, and the rest of the team.
