Description
Hōdai serves as the personal maid and devoted bodyguard to Alice Okanega. Her background is largely enigmatic, having been at Alice's side since her mistress was a young child. Notably, her physical appearance has shown virtually no signs of aging over that time, leaving her true age and even her real name a mystery to others. Her surname, Hōdai, is exceptionally rare in Japan, with fewer than an estimated three hundred people sharing it, most of whom reside in the Kagoshima Prefecture. A pivotal event in her past that cemented her fierce loyalty was when she gifted a young Alice a plush toy of the character Runrūn, an act that brought Alice great joy and has since shaped their bond.

In both appearance and personality, Hōdai makes a strong impression. She is a tall woman with long, straight black hair and a well-proportioned, voluptuous figure. Her eyes are almost always depicted as closed, and her face is characterized by fuller lips and a distinctive, teardrop-shaped beauty mark beneath one eye. Her demeanor is one of unwavering, absolute loyalty to Alice, a devotion that borders on obsession and frequently manifests in extreme protective measures. She does not hesitate to use physical force, including throwing knives with pinpoint accuracy, against anyone she perceives as disrespecting or threatening Alice or Runrūn. Despite her solemn and professional bearing, she has an eccentric side, sometimes misunderstanding social situations and acting in peculiar, overzealous ways. In a professional context, such as evaluating the commercial potential of Alice’s Runrūn brand, she adopts a tough, critical, and business-like attitude.

Hōdai’s primary motivation is the happiness and safety of Alice Okanega, whom she considers her beloved mistress above all else. This singular focus drives nearly every action she takes, from following Alice to school against the objections of authority figures to personally intervening in any potential conflict. Her role in the story is that of a steadfast guardian and a catalyst for both comedic and dramatic events. Her over-the-top loyalty and willingness to resort to drastic measures often create chaotic situations, but she is also the source of key story developments, such as having initially sparked Alice’s love for Runrūn.

Her key relationships are defined by her devotion to Alice. She views Alice’s classmate, Kotaro Kawaii, with intense skepticism, frequently suggesting that Alice should instead pursue the prearranged marriage prospects laid out by her family. This puts her in direct competition with Mami Kirara, another figure who cares for Alice, and the two clash over their differing philosophies on Alice’s upbringing and future. While Hōdai cares for Runrūn because it is a source of happiness for Alice, she remains cold and businesslike about its actual commercial worth as a brand.

Throughout the story, Hōdai shows little conventional development because her core personality is so fixed, but her extreme loyalty sometimes escalates into mishaps that drive storylines. In one notable instance, she demonstrates her tactical thinking and physical prowess by swiftly donning a mascot suit to help restore Runrūn’s popularity, all while maintaining her agility. Her capabilities are considerable; she possesses superb bodyguard skills, including extraordinary physical agility and the ability to throw knives with lethal precision. Within the context of a dream world, her unwavering loyalty is further symbolized by her appearance as a fierce knight in spiked armor, protecting a royal mage version of Alice.
