Description
Amleto is a supporting character in the 2026 anime film Scarlet, where he serves as the catalyst for the story's central conflict. He is the wise and peace-loving King of Denmark, who rules during a period of prosperity in the 17th century. He is also the father of the film's protagonist, the warrior princess Scarlet, for whom he has a deep and evident affection.

Amleto's life comes to an end through a treacherous betrayal orchestrated by his own brother, Claudius. Driven by a lust for power, Claudius conspires with the queen, Gertrude, to have Amleto falsely accused of conspiring against the crown. As a result, the good king is unjustly arrested and publicly executed on the gallows. In his final moments, as his daughter watches in horror, Amleto is shown to speak a final, unheard request, which becomes a central mystery that drives Scarlet's quest. His last word, which is eventually revealed, is "perdono," meaning forgiveness.

As a character, Amleto exists more as a memory and a driving force for others rather than as an active participant in the main plot. His personality is defined by his reputation for fairness, wisdom, and generosity, which stands in stark contrast to the warlike and oppressive nature of his usurping brother, Claudius. He does not possess any notable combat abilities, as he is presented as a peaceful and scholarly monarch. His primary role in the story is to serve as the object of Scarlet's quest for vengeance. Her entire motivation for years of training and her subsequent journey through the afterlife is to avenge his death and uncover the truth of his final plea.

Amleto's key relationships are few but pivotal. His most important bond is with his daughter, Scarlet, whose fierce love for him is the foundation of her character. His relationship with his brother, Claudius, is one of fatal betrayal, turning family into mortal enemy. The memory of his wise rule and his final message of forgiveness ultimately provide the emotional and moral resolution for the film, challenging the protagonist's violent quest for revenge.
