Jou Kido, alternatively romanized as Joe Kido, comes from Hikarigaoka and attended Dai-go Elementary School. In 1995, as a child, he witnessed the battle between Greymon and Parrotmon while speaking to his brother Shuu on the phone, an event that marked him as a DigiDestined. His family relocated to Odaiba after authorities labeled the incident a terrorist attack. Sporting short blue hair (black in some depictions), black eyes, and large glasses, Jou stands tall. His attire evolves: as a sixth grader, he wears a light blue collared shirt under a light grey V-neck sweater vest, grey pants, and a blue wristwatch. Later clothing reflects academic focus, like a dark blue formal suit jacket in high school and a resident intern outfit in his twenties. By 2028, he adopts a white doctor's coat over a green sweater and grey pants. Anxiety and responsibility define Jou as the oldest DigiDestined. Initially a "nervous wreck" prone to panic, he champions safety as the group's voice of reason, inviting teasing from his partner Gomamon and others. Despite clumsiness and indecisiveness, he demonstrates selflessness by rescuing Takeru Takaishi from drowning, activating his Crest of Reliability (translated as "Sincerity" or "Honesty" in some sources). This act enables Gomamon's evolution to Zudomon. Balancing familial expectations—rooted in a medical tradition dating to the Edo period—with DigiDestined duties shapes his growth. In *Digimon Adventure 02*, he passes responsibilities to Cody Hida while studying for entrance exams. During *Digimon Adventure tri.*, he struggles with college preparation and declining grades, initially prioritizing studies over Digital World crises before recommitting to the team. Key narrative moments include his solo attempt to climb Infinity Mountain to protect others, working at a diner to repay debt after a DemiDevimon-induced mishap, and sacrificing his Crest's power in May 2000 to free the Digimon Sovereigns, costing Gomamon the ability to reach Zudomon. The 2020 *Digimon Adventure* reboot highlights his diligence through building a study shed in the Digital World and purifying a berserk Jagamon by infusing Zudomon's hammer with Angewomon's power. Jou's family includes parents, two older brothers—medical intern Shin and anthropology student Shuu (studying under Sora Takenouchi's father)—and a grandmother. The English dub merges his brothers into Jim Kido. By 2028, he becomes the first Digimon doctor, marries, and has a son partnered with a Pukamon. His medical practice faces unique challenges like patients eating tongue depressors. Beyond anime, Jou appears in games like *Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode*, challenging players while expressing self-doubt and entrusting "Chips of Sincerity" to allies. Drama CDs further explore his interactions.
