Description
Chokkirine, also known as Chokkirinu, serves as a primary antagonist in her story, holding the position of the second-in-command and acting leader of Team Chokkiri. She answers directly to a more sinister authority named Darkine, to whom she is shown to be fiercely loyal. Chokkirine's subordinates are Cutty and Zakkuri, a pair of henchmen she commands with a harsh and demanding demeanor, expecting them to carry out the organization's mission without complaint. Her name is derived from the Japanese word chokkiri, meaning to snip or cut, which reflects her group's goals and her own exacting nature.
In terms of personality, Chokkirine is characterized as serious, no-nonsense, and cold. As a crime boss would be expected to be, she is a demanding leader who does not tolerate failure or excuses from those under her command. She views the world's overflowing sparkle, referred to as Kirakira, as an eyesore and is determined to snuff it out, plunging the world into darkness. Despite her harshness toward her subordinates, she is not physically abusive when they fail, though she often uses pointed criticism and pressure to push them harder, which frequently leads to one of her henchmen, Zakkuri, overworking himself to the point of burnout. Chokkirine also seems to have a fondness for gambling and playing billiards, and she is often seen in the team's dark, bar-like headquarters playing pool by herself while issuing orders.
As the leader of Team Chokkiri, Chokkirine's role in the story is to oversee the operation to steal the inner sparkle from humans. She typically remains in the background, sending Cutty and Zakkuri to do the work of creating monsters by snipping away people's Kirakira with a special pair of scissors. However, she is not unwilling to take direct action when the situation calls for it. She is capable of creating and summoning multiple types of monsters, known as Makkuranda, Kurayaminda, and Darkranda, by uttering specific incantations and using crystals. She can also teleport herself out of an area in an instant. Her first personal confrontation with the Precure occurs when she summons three monsters to fight them simultaneously, demonstrating a willingness to use her own power. Later, when a new, cheeky employee named Jogi joins the team, Chokkirine is forced to work alongside him, a situation that visibly irritates her.
Chokkirine's key relationships are defined by a strict hierarchy. Her loyalty to her own superior, Darkine, is absolute, and she refers to her with great respect. In contrast, her relationship with her own subordinates, Cutty and Zakkuri, is one of a stern taskmaster. Even when Cutty becomes fascinated with the Pretty Cure, Chokkirine merely expresses exasperated resignation rather than taking harsh action. However, she is less forgiving with Zakkuri, constantly pressuring him to work harder, especially after Cutty leaves the group, forcing Zakkuri to shoulder all the work alone. This relentless pressure contributes to Zakkuri’s physical and mental breakdown, leading him to eventually leave the team as well. After her subordinates leave, Chokkirine has no choice but to begin doing all the work herself.
Over the course of the story, Chokkirine's role evolves subtly. Initially content to direct from the shadows, she becomes more directly involved in battles and schemes as her subordinates fail or depart. She is shown to have a number of confrontations with the Pretty Cure, though she finds them to be extremely difficult opponents. Her determination to defeat them and fulfill her mission for Darkine becomes an obsession. Ultimately, after failing to secure victory on what is implied to be her final chance, her superior, Darkine, intervenes and returns her to the eternal darkness from which she came, as Chokkirine herself was created from Darkine's own darkness.
