Description
Cutty is a character who begins as a member of the antagonist group Team Chokkiri before his true nature is revealed. His real identity is Cuttin, a fairy from the magical world of Kirakiland. In his original fairy form, Cuttin is small with light blue fur, lop ears, blue eyes, and a tuft of yellow-green hair. He has green heart-shaped markings above his eyes and pink blush on his cheeks, with an upside-down eighth note symbol on his belly. After having his darkness amplified, he was given a larger humanoid form and became known as Cutty, serving as a henchman for Team Chokkiri.
In his humanoid villain form, Cutty appears as a large, stout man with olive green spiky hair and a stern, displeased expression. He wears a dark navy suit with prominent gold scissors displayed on the front, along with light grayish-blue gloves and orange earrings. His eyes feature distinctive black triangular borders with angular markings below them, though these markings disappear after he is purified.
Cutty’s personality is a blend of polite mannerisms and selfish, forceful actions. He speaks in a calm and monotonous tone but acts on his own impulses, often cutting ahead of his fellow henchman Zakkury to fight the Precure as he pleases. His name in Japanese plays on the word katte, meaning selfish, reflecting his tendency to prioritize his own desires. Despite his role as an antagonist, Cutty develops a secret admiration for the heroines, particularly Cure Idol. He frequently watches her performances on his phone in Team Chokkiri’s lair, becoming a fan in secret while still carrying out his duties as a villain. This internal conflict between his mission and his growing desire to support the Precure becomes a central part of his character arc.
Cutty’s primary motivation initially is to serve Team Chokkiri and their master Darkine, helping to plunge the world into pitch-black darkness. He is tasked with stealing Kirakira from humans and corrupting them into monsters called Makkuranda. However, his repeated failures and his growing fascination with the Precure’s dedication and hard work lead him to question his purpose. When he witnesses the girls practicing earnestly, he releases his own sparkle and loses his will to fight. Darkine responds by forcibly transforming him into a giant robot monster named Cuttinda, demonstrating that his purpose is no longer his own choice. His later motivation shifts toward redemption and supporting the heroes he once fought against.
In the story, Cutty serves as an early recurring antagonist who creates monsters for the Precure to purify. Over time, his role evolves from enemy to reluctant captive to redeemed ally. After being purified by the Precure, he declares himself their number one fan and later reveals his true form as the fairy Cuttin. He joins the Idol Precure fan club as its first member alongside Zakkuri and eventually becomes an employee at the Pretty Cure Pretty Store, fully integrating into the community he once opposed.
Key relationships shape Cutty’s development significantly. His relationship with his boss Chokkirine is complicated, as he often finds excuses to avoid her orders and expresses dislike for her, yet he later shows genuine care for her and helps save her when she is brainwashed. His fellow henchman Zakkuri is initially a rival who ridicules Cutty, especially after discovering his secret fandom, but the two reconcile and become friends after leaving Team Chokkiri. His relationship with Cure Idol is the most transformative, as his secret fandom grows into open admiration, and she ultimately becomes someone he wishes to support rather than fight. He also fears Darkine, who forces him into monstrous transformations as punishment for his failures.
Cutty undergoes substantial development throughout the series. Before becoming a villain, Cuttin was a lonely fairy in Kirakiland who hoarded fruits for himself, leaving him isolated. Darkine amplified his weaknesses and transformed him into Cutty, but his inherent sparkle of admiration for the Precure persists despite the darkness. His purification restores him to a more gentle personality, with his stern facial markings disappearing as his expression becomes kinder. He ultimately helps restore Kirakiland alongside the Precure and is overjoyed when Chokkirine is reborn as a fairy after the final battle. His journey represents a redemption arc from selfish hoarder to reluctant villain to devoted supporter and friend.
Notable abilities include floating in midair and appearing or disappearing at will in a puff of smoke. He can corrupt humans into Makkuranda minions by stealing their Kirakira. In his transformed state as Cuttinda, he gains immense size and power, capable of firing purple beams from his mouth and chest and easily overpowering the Precure. His design as Cuttinda visually references classic mecha from Toei productions, including Mazinger Z, Gaiking, and Giant Robo. After his redemption, his abilities shift toward support rather than combat, as he helps organize fan activities and works as a store employee.
