Description
Adonis the Question, also known as Question=Adonis, is a central character in the fantasy anime Bye Bye, Earth. He is a young man with chin-length hair, blue eyes, and animal-like ears, often wearing a headband and gloves. He belongs to the Moon Pupil tribe and carries a unique curse known as the Mark of the Skeptic, which causes anything he forms a deep sensory or emotional bond with to decay and rot. As a result, he cannot wield a personal sword in the traditional way; instead, he uses swords as disposable tools, often taking them from the dead, which earned him the nickname the Sword Thief. He is accompanied by a flower-beast familiar named Bamboo, whose body contains an extradimensional space that Adonis uses as a home and armory. Despite his curse, he was once a castle swordsman, but after a specific incident he abandoned that post to join the Famine Alliance, where he met Doranvi and obtained a unique regenerating blade called the Rusty Claw, marked with the word "NOWHERE." Adonis shares a deep and volatile relationship with the protagonist Belle Lablac, the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Their bond ends in a violent falling out that leaves Belle physically and emotionally wounded. Following this betrayal, Adonis aligns himself with the forces of darkness and becomes a direct threat to the kingdom of Schubertland and its ruler, King Rawhide. He is portrayed as the Man of Question, distraught by the events of his downfall, having once come close to securing Belle for his own benefit. His actions drive much of the conflict in the second season, as others race to stop his destructive path. A notable quote attributed to him is, "This is god's blind spot," suggesting he sees himself as operating outside normal rules.
