Description
Duke Aristide Rogier Du Galbraith is the head of the Galbraith ducal house in the Kingdom of Langdias. He is the younger brother of the current king, Maxim, and was adopted into the Galbraith family at the time of his brother's ascension to the throne. His territory is home to the Great Elzenier Forest, a notorious breeding ground for monsters, making the subjugation of these creatures his primary duty and livelihood.

Known throughout the realm as the Blood-Mad Duke, Aristide possesses a fearsome reputation earned through his relentless and skillful monster hunting. Despite this intimidating public image, he is a fundamentally kind and good-hearted man. He often gives the impression of being aloof or composed, but this exterior masks a warm and caring nature, particularly towards his subordinates and his fiancée, Melphiera Marchalrayd. He wears dark-colored outfits for the practical reason that they do not show monster blood as easily as lighter clothes would.

Aristide was born with an immense amount of magical power, a trait that manifested as physical fragility during his childhood. This condition, sometimes called the Sight, causes his golden eyes to glow when he channels his magic. To overcome his sickly beginnings, he trained rigorously with the royal knights, building his physical strength and honing his swordsmanship to complement his magical abilities. He specializes in fire spells, which he uses to dispose of monster carcasses, but prefers close-quarters combat, wielding a signature beheading technique to slay monsters with a single, decisive strike.

His motivations are deeply tied to his sense of duty and his past. Growing up during a time of famine and political upheaval, he was nearly used as a political pawn. He instead allied with his brother Maxim to secure the throne, resigning himself to a life of sacrificing his own safety to hunt monsters and provide for the kingdom. However, his high magical power poses a long-term risk, similar to the condition that led to the death of Melphiera's mother, as an excess of magical energy can fatally weaken the body.

Aristide meets Melphiera when a monster attacks a royal banquet. He is immediately captivated by her bravery and her unique, almost encyclopedic knowledge of cooking and consuming monster meat, which he finds deeply intriguing. This leads him to propose to her shortly after their first meeting. Their relationship is a bond of mutual understanding and support, as both are social outcasts for their unusual fixations. He develops a single-target sexuality for her, and she is the only woman he has ever fallen for.

In private, Melphiera calls him by his middle name, Rogier. He shows his affectionate side by taking a particular liking to her soft hair. He is also known for a jealous streak, though it is not violently possessive. As their relationship develops, Melphiera's research into extracting magic from monster bodies becomes a potential key to saving him from the fate that befell her mother, driving his character arc from a solitary warlord resigned to his fate to a man who can embrace collaboration and hope for a future beyond monster hunting.
