Description
Naberius Kalego is a highly prestigious professor at Babyls Demon School, where he serves as the homeroom teacher of the Misfit Class, a group of unconventional and powerful students that includes the human protagonist Iruma Suzuki. He hails from the noble Naberius family, a lineage known for its discipline and magical prowess. Kalego holds the demon rank of Khet, the eighth rank, making him the second-highest-ranking individual at the school after the principal. His appearance is sharp and composed, with pale skin, dark purple eyes, and neatly slicked-back black hair, and he typically wears the formal faculty uniform.

Kalego’s personality is defined by strictness, short-temperedness, and a profound contempt for laziness and easygoing attitudes. He is derisive, intimidating, and rarely offers praise or encouragement, often referring to students as trash, idiots, or problem children as part of his harsh, tough-love teaching approach. Despite this cold exterior, he harbors a genuine concern for his students’ development and believes in pushing them to reach their full potential through rigorous discipline. He is also deeply principled and responsible, with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that emerges in his deadpan remarks.

His primary motivations are to uphold the prestige and standards of Babyls Demon School and to mold his students into capable, self-reliant demons. He values personal strength and merit, respecting those who prove themselves even if he rarely openly acknowledges their achievements. His commitment to order and structure often puts him at odds with chaotic or carefree individuals, but he remains dutiful in his role as an educator.

Kalego’s central role in the story is twofold: he is the strict mentor of the Misfit Class, overseeing Iruma, Asmodeus Alice, and Clara Valac among others, and he inadvertently becomes Iruma’s summoned familiar. Because Iruma is a human with no demonic power, the summoning ritual instead binds Kalego himself, transforming him into a small, fluffy white creature resembling an owl chick with bat-like wings, horns, and his signature front hair curl. This humiliating contract lasts for a year and creates a constant source of comedic frustration for Kalego, as he is forced to appear whenever Iruma calls him. He remains unaware of Iruma’s human nature, adding to his irritation.

Kalego’s key relationships include his dynamic with Iruma, which evolves from mutual annoyance to reluctant mentorship. He is frequently exasperated by Iruma’s unexpected luck and polite demeanor but gradually acknowledges his growth and positive influence on the class. With Opera, the head of the school’s security and his former classmate, Kalego shares a long-standing rivalry that often leaves him outmaneuvered and humiliated. He also has a respectful but contrasting bond with Balam Shichiro, another former classmate who is far more gentle and understanding. Kalego’s interactions with Principal Sullivan are marked by deference mixed with exasperation at Sullivan’s indulgent antics.

Over the course of the series, Kalego experiences noticeable character development. During the Cultivation arc, he begins to appreciate Iruma’s unique human qualities and the beneficial effect they have on the Misfit Class, leading him to soften his rigid teaching methods. In the Demon School Festival arc, his protective instincts emerge strongly as he works to ensure his students’ safety, revealing a more compassionate side beneath his harsh demeanor. These moments contribute to a gradual shift from purely strict disciplinarian to a more nuanced mentor who cares deeply for his charges.

In terms of abilities, Kalego is an extremely powerful demon with a vast arsenal of magic. His signature technique is the summoning of Cerberion, a giant three-headed dog composed of pure mana infused with Naberius blood. Cerberion serves as both an offensive weapon and a guardian of the school, capable of devastating attacks and formidable defense. Kalego’s combat style relies heavily on magic-based attacks, including potent energy blasts and barriers, and his scholarly knowledge of demonic arts makes him an expert in magical theory and practical application. As a member of the Naberius clan, he is possessed by a fierce canine spirit, which manifests as Cerberion. Despite his power, he occasionally struggles with chaotic or unpredictable magical situations, particularly those caused by his students.
