Description
Amduscias Poro, often referred to simply as Poro, is a character from the anime and manga series Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun. He is a former member of the prestigious Thirteen Crowns, a group of the most powerful demons in the Netherworld, and was once the personal court musician for the missing Demon King, Derkila. His nickname is the Sound Magician, and he is renowned as a legendary musical prodigy.
In appearance, Poro is a very tall and elegant demon with a distinct aesthetic tied to his musical theme. He has a single horn in the center of his forehead, and his two-toned hair is styled short around his face with a long ponytail that moves in a prehensile manner like a tail. His eyeliner and the tips of his hair are shaped like musical notes. He typically wears a pinstripe suit with a low neckline and white high heels, and his demonic wings bear markings that resemble piano keys.
Poro's personality is characterized by a profound sense of pride and haughtiness, particularly directed at anyone who is not Derkila. He is deeply passionate about music and his relationships, and his manner of speech and presentation is notably flamboyant and often flirtatious towards other men. The most defining aspect of his personality is his intense, unwavering devotion to the former Demon King Derkila, whom he has stated multiple times that he loves. He remains fiercely loyal to Derkila's memory, even refusing to accept that he could truly be dead. This devotion fuels much of his initial hostility towards others, as seen when he becomes enraged that the Misfit Class has opened and is using the Royal One classroom, a place he associates with his time with Derkila.
Within the story, Poro serves as a major figure during the Music Festival arc. He is invited by Sullivan, the chairman of Babyls Demon School and a fellow former companion of Derkila, to be a guest judge for the first-year students' performances. Despite his initial anger over the use of the Royal One, he channels this into a challenge for the Misfit Class to "seduce" him with their music to earn the right to keep their classroom. As a judge, he proves to be strict but fair, possessing such refined hearing that he can pick up on the tiniest inconsistencies in a musical piece that no one else can detect. He delivers harsh, technical critiques to performers but also offers constructive feedback, such as when he praises Coco's voice while advising him to be less isolated in his performance. Ultimately, he is moved by the Misfit Class's performance and the resemblance he sees between Iruma and Derkila, awarding them the high score that makes them winners of the festival.
Poro's key relationships are almost entirely defined by his connection to the previous Demon King. He was a classmate of Derkila at Babyls, and they composed many songs together. He harbors a grudge against Sullivan, whom he perceives as having always been closer to Derkila than he could ever get, leading him to confront the chairman upon his arrival at the school. His relationship with Iruma is complex; although initially antagonistic, he sees a ghost of Derkila in the human boy, which softens his judgment and leads him to give Iruma a special rank promotion. After the festival, Poro is approached by the terrorist group the Six Fingers, who seek to recruit him for their plans to "revive" Derkila, and he later joins their ranks. In this later role, he is seen assisting the villain Baal, even helping him navigate social situations and choose wardrobes, though he remains openly disgusted by the perverse personalities of his new associates.
In terms of abilities, Poro is a legendary musician of immense power. He earned the title Legendary Sound Demon for a feat where he single-handedly stalled an entire enemy army for 666 hours using only his music. His skill as a musician is unparalleled, and he serves as a masterful instructor and critic, capable of elevating or dismantling a performance with his judgment. His deep, long-held love for Derkila was the primary inspiration for all of his music, and he claims he cannot replicate his legendary feats without him.
