Description
Gaap Goemon is a second-year student attending Babyls Demon School alongside Iruma Suzuki as a member of the Abnormal Class. He is a tall male demon completely covered in thick, deep silver hair that obscures his entire face. He wears the standard Babyls uniform, but with several distinctions: he does not have the complete bow tie, only the button-like demon eye ornament, and his blazer is longer than the standard issue, reaching nearly his knees. He keeps a sword at his waist, secured by a belt-like strip of cloth.
Gaap's background is defined by his family's unique and burdensome history. According to legend, the original Gaap demon was born of chaos and evolved an immensely hideous face as a defense mechanism, one so terrifying that any demon who saw it would be driven to insanity. While this trait guaranteed survival, it resulted in profound isolation and loneliness. A deity named Harpnus took pity on the demon, blessing it with a thick coat of silver fur to conceal its face and granting it the power to control the wind. Since that time, the Gaap family has been bound by a strict rule to never reveal their true faces, and each generation inherits the silver hair and wind-based magic as a result of this divine blessing.
In personality, Gaap is characterized by his persistent kindness and a tendency to help others without any apparent expectation of reward. He has difficulty comprehending the concept of personal space, often inserting himself into others' affairs with the best of intentions. His primary motivation stems from a specific ambition he has set for himself: to make one hundred allies. This desire for friendship and connection directly contrasts with his family's legacy of isolation. He speaks in a formal, old-fashioned manner, often ending his sentences with "de gozaru," which gives him a samurai-like quality.
Throughout the story, Gaap's role showcases his growth from a well-meaning classmate to a reliable and powerful ally. He enters Babyls with the rank of Aleph (1) after the entrance exam flying race. He participates in several major events, including the Cannonball Execution arc where his team loses, and the Walter Park arc where he helps his classmates defeat a rampaging beast under Jazz's leadership. During the Harvest Festival, Gaap forms a pivotal partnership with his classmate Agares Picero. While Agares creates a massive castle with his earth magic, Gaap uses it as a base to actively invite and protect other students, directly pursuing his goal of making allies. Their successful strategy, which results in significantly fewer students being eliminated, earns both of them a promotion to the rank of Gimel (3). He later takes part in the class musical for the Music Festival, where his entire class is promoted to Daleth (4).
Gaap's most significant relationship is with Agares Picero. While Agares is initially reluctant and often exasperated by Gaap's energetic and intrusive friendliness, the two become close friends, to the point that they are often seen together and paired for major events. Their bond is solidified during the Harvest Festival and is tested during a later incident known as the Heartbreaker. When Gaap accidentally reveals his true face during an exercise, two of his junior teammates, Zakumu and Michel, catch a glimpse of it. The sight is so psychologically devastating that they collapse and require advanced magical healing. Overcome with guilt and despair, Gaap isolates himself from school, believing his cursed appearance makes his ambition to gain allies impossible. It is Agares who visits him at his family dojo, listens to his story, and offers a firm promise to stop Gaap if he ever loses control again. Agares also shows Gaap messages of concern and support from numerous classmates, proving that he has already succeeded in forming the bonds he so desperately wanted.
In terms of abilities, Gaap is a skilled magic user specializing in his inherited bloodline magic, known as the Kamaitachi, or Wind Sword. This allows him to create and manipulate invisible blades of wind with great finesse, which can be launched like projectiles. His techniques include Wind Blade: Kill, a powerful cutting attack that maintains a light blue, visible whirlwind around his sword until it is sheathed. He also develops a more advanced technique called Rescue Gale, an enhanced version of his Wind Blade that allows him to strike multiple opponents over a wide area while carefully leaving his allies unharmed. He was trained alongside Agares by Lady Vepar to refine these wind-based powers and overcome their limitations. Despite his power, his true face remains his most potent and forbidden ability, a generational curse that can inflict insanity upon any demon unlucky enough to witness it.
