Description
IceHeat is a major supporting character in the series, known as the UR level 7777 summon, The Frozen Firestorm Grappler, brought into the world by the protagonist Light. She was summoned during the three-year period Light spent building his underground base known as the Abyss, and she quickly assumed the position of Vice Head Maid. In this role, she manages domestic affairs within the Abyss whenever the head maid, Mei, is deployed elsewhere, and she also acts as Light's personal bodyguard within the base. Her authority and power are further recognized by her status as one of the four level 7777 bosses of the Giant Tower.
In terms of appearance, IceHeat is a tall woman with a cool and dignified beauty. Her most striking feature is her long twin-tail hair, which is split vertically down the middle with one side a burning red and the other a freezing blue. She typically wears a distinctive maid uniform similar to the fairy maids but without wings. When engaged in combat or on guard duty, she equips large, heavy gauntlets on both hands and wears light armor components over her maid attire. Her eyes are a notable shade of purple.
Personality wise, IceHeat is defined by her seriousness, diligence, and an immense, unwavering loyalty to Light. Unlike some of the more eccentric members of the Abyss, she is professional and strait-laced, taking her duties as Vice Head Maid very seriously. However, beneath this composed exterior lies a significant complex regarding what she perceives as her terrible bad luck. She frequently laments that she misses opportunities to prove her worth in battle to Light because her enemies often surrender, flee, or are effortlessly defeated by the more powerful and carefree Nazuna before she can even act. This has led to a desperate and somewhat comical obsession with lucky items, such as rabbit feet, snake skins, and a UR Lucky Coin given to her by her friend Mera. Outside of her duties, she is also characterized as a heavy drinker, often visiting the cafeteria late at night with Mera to vent her frustrations. Her understanding of the surface world is also shown to be lacking a certain common sense, as she once attempted to donate a massive barrel of gold coins to a poor village, genuinely believing it was a small amount.
IceHeats motivations are deeply rooted in her desire to serve Light and prove her value to him as a warrior. While she is utterly loyal and follows his every command, she often feels jealous that she is not able to help him fight more often and constantly seeks any opportunity to impress him with her strength. Her internal struggle is less about a grand ambition and more about a personal frustration with her perceived poor fortune, which she believes consistently robs her of the chance to demonstrate her capabilities.
Within the story, IceHeat plays a crucial role as one of the key defenders of the Abyss. While the main force of higher-level executives like Mei, Aoyuki, Ellie, and Nazuna often operate on the surface, IceHeat is frequently left in charge of the Abyss’s defense, a role she performs perfectly but begrudgingly as she yearns to fight alongside her master. When enemies do manage to infiltrate the Abyss, she is on the front lines. For instance, during the invasion of the Abyss by the Dragon Empires Masters, she intercepted the Bomb Master Cesta, prepared to prove her loyalty in a duel, only for Nazuna to crash into the battle and take over the fight, leaving IceHeat sidelined once again. She later participates in the suppression of the remaining Masters, and serves as part of Lights welcoming committee against the invading White Knights of the Elven Queendom, overwhelming them with her immense power.
Her key relationships further define her character. Her bond with her master Light is one of absolute loyalty. As with all of Lights summons, she is completely devoted to him and follows his every command, though her jealousy over not being able to fight by his side is a personal source of frustration. IceHeat shares a particularly strong friendship with Mera, who is also a level 7777 summon. Despite their opposing personalities, with IceHeat being the more serious one in battle, the two are considered best friends and work well together. They are essentially drinking buddies who bond over complaining about their work and their respective bad luck. She is the subordinate of Mei, the Head Maid of the Abyss, whom she deeply admires. Her relationship with Nazuna is one of conflicting respect and jealousy; while IceHeat holds respect for Nazuna, she is envious of the ease with which Nazuna defeats enemies, though she also takes on a caretaker role, ensuring Nazuna takes care of herself by doing things like washing her hair.
IceHeats development is primarily internal, revolving around her struggle with her perceived bad luck and her desire to be a more active combatant for Light. While she does not undergo a dramatic personality shift, her repeated failures to get a chance to shine reinforce her complex and her reliance on lucky charms. Her character provides a more grounded and relatable perspective within the overwhelmingly powerful group of summons, highlighting themes of insecurity and the desire for recognition.
Her notable abilities are formidable and reflect her unique title. IceHeat is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant who masterfully integrates martial arts with powerful fire and ice magic. While she is technically weaker than the level 9999 executives like Mei or Nazuna, her own level of 7777 still makes her a catastrophe-class threat to the rest of the world. She wields two magical gauntlets. The right gauntlet is known as Ifrit, which generates intense heat and flames, capable of unleashing a wide-range attack called Firestorm that creates a storm of flames to incinerate enemies. The left gauntlet is known as Cocytus, which generates absolute zero cold, allowing her to fire condensed shards of ice at high speeds with Ice Bullet or create a thick Ice Barrier to block attacks. Her most powerful technique is the Elemental Combination, where she combines the heat from Ifrit and the cold from Cocytus to create devastating thermal shocks, massive steam explosions, and deliver elemental punches that can destroy nearly any opponent.
