Description
Char Aznable appears in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- as a version of the iconic character from an alternate history of the Universal Century. In this timeline, Char is a Major in the Principality of Zeon's forces and an ace pilot known by the fearsome nickname The Red Comet. His true identity is Casval Daikun, the son of Zeon Zum Daikun, the founder of the Republic of Zeon. He harbors a deep-seated hatred for the ruling Zabi family, whom he holds responsible for his father's death, and has joined the Zeon military with the ultimate goal of exacting revenge and securing a new future for Spacenoids, particularly those evolving into Newtypes. Unlike the original series where his rival Amuro Ray pilots the prototype Gundam, Char successfully captures the Earth Federation's prototype RX-78-02 White Gundam and its warship, the Pegasus, at the Side 7 colony. He then repaints the captured mobile suit in his signature red, creating the Red Gundam, which he uses to lead Zeon to a decisive victory in the One Year War.

In terms of personality, Char is depicted as a brilliant and charismatic leader who is well-liked and respected by his subordinates. He is known not only for his superb piloting skills but also for his bravery, intelligence, and strategic thinking on the battlefield. He leads by example, often being the first to engage the enemy, but his actions are never foolhardy, being backed by careful planning and a quick adaptation to complex situations. His men, such as Denim and Dren, trust him implicitly as a leader they can rely upon. He also appreciates and seeks out other Newtypes, like Challia Bull, who share his vision for Spacenoids' future, as part of his plan to amass power to eventually defeat the Zabi family.

Char's primary role in the story is as the catalyst for the alternate history of GQuuuuuuX. His successful hijacking of the White Gundam and subsequent victories allow Zeon to win the war. However, during the final battle of the conflict, the Assault on Luna-II, an unknown phenomenon called Zeknova occurs, causing Char and his Red Gundam to vanish without a trace. Before his disappearance, he encounters a mysterious person within the phenomenon. He eventually returns years later, resurfacing under the alias Shirouzu. In this new identity, he works behind the scenes to fix problems related to a machine called the Rose of Sharon. He also gives the Red Gundam to a powerful Newtype named Shūji Itō, hoping to recruit him to his cause. He later coordinates with Challia Bull to assassinate Kycilia Zabi, though Bull ultimately betrays him, claiming that someone as empty as Char would lead Zeon to ruin. Char escapes and is later seen on Earth meeting Lalah Sune in a refugee camp.

Char's development in this film shows his transition from a vengeful Zeon officer to a mysterious, manipulative figure working from the shadows. He proves to be a master planner who can think several steps ahead of others, achieving brilliant victories against overwhelming odds. His abilities as a pilot are so exceptional that he can pilot the captured Federation Gundam for the first time without needing a manual, despite differences in control systems. He is also an inspiring leader and a powerful Newtype, with researcher Dr. Flanagan believing Char displays a Newtype's true potential, eventually entrusting him with the Psycommu system. His key relationships include his fellow Newtype and ally Challia Bull, the young pilot Shūji Itō, and his sister Artesia, though his single-minded quest for revenge and his "emptiness" lead to conflict and betrayal.
