Description
Lize is a male character who was once a fifteen year old prince, but after a curse was removed from him, his body shrank to that of roughly a ten year old boy. He lost all of his memories in the process and no longer knows who he is or where he came from. His true birth name is Lizel, but because real names hold power and must not be revealed, Luna gives him the name Lize. He enters the story when Luna finds him stabbed in a river with a cursed knife; the curse on the weapon is so powerful that when Luna removes it, his body contracts and his past is erased.
In terms of personality, Lize is described as beautiful and delicate, with a sorrowful and mysterious air about him. He is compared to a death cap mushroom, suggesting an appearance that is lovely but carries danger within. He is quiet, uncertain, and deeply vulnerable at first, but also possesses a core of resilience that emerges as he begins to train. His emotional state is unstable because he is aware of his precarious condition: he carries the potential to transform into a monstrous being known as the End of All Things, a creature born from the pollution of the world that would poison everything in its path. This drives his primary motivation, which is to gain control over his own magic and avoid that fate. He also wishes to recover his lost memories and understand who he truly is.
Lize plays a central role in the story as the cursed youngling whose arrival disrupts Luna’s solitary life. He becomes her apprentice, learning magic under her guidance, and his presence forces her to confront the outside world and her own past. Their relationship is the emotional core of the narrative: Luna becomes his protector and teacher, while Lize gives her a reason to connect with someone else despite her poisonous nature. Beyond Luna, Lize interacts with several other figures. He forms a bond with Claude, who supports him, and with Henri, whose bright and open nature contrasts with Lize’s more guarded disposition. The Bird Magician shares a mysterious connection with him, hinting at deeper ties to the kingdom’s power structure, while the Wind Magician views Lize as an impurity that must be eliminated, serving as an antagonist who embodies rigid ideology.
Over the course of the story, Lize develops from a passive, protected figure into someone who begins to define his own identity. He attempts to control his unstable magic, and his poison manifests as wolfsbane, a detail that ties him directly to Luna’s influence and protection. This transformation also marks him as impure in the eyes of the white witches’ order, reinforcing the series’ theme that dangerous power is not inherently evil but is judged by rigid systems. By the end, Lize stands at a crossroads, no longer a simple victim but not yet fully in command of his fate.
As a magic user, Lize possesses notable abilities, though they are unstable and dangerous. His curse connects him to poison and plant-based magic, particularly wolfsbane, and he must learn to channel his power without succumbing to the monstrous destiny that awaits him if he fails. His training under Luna is focused on achieving that control and on finding a way to live with his condition rather than being destroyed by it.
