Description
Dennis is the protagonist of the story, a tall and muscular man with black hair and blue eyes who serves as a level 99 chef and former member of the top adventurer party known as the Silver Wing Battalion. Originally a street urchin, he was taken in and adopted by the chef Jean Blacks, who raised him as her son and taught him everything about cooking. He later worked as a sous chef at her restaurant, the Blacks restaurant, before leaving to pursue his own path. Eventually, he joined the Silver Wing Battalion, where he supported the party from the rear using his cooking and related skills, but was ultimately expelled by the party's captain, Vigo, due to the captain's personal dislike and spite. Following his exile, Dennis decided to fulfill his long-held dream of opening his own restaurant in the countryside.

Dennis is defined by his kind and generous nature, always willing to help those in need and gladly feeding customers who cannot pay for their meals. This compassion extends to a strong protective instinct, particularly toward the young girl Atelier, whom he buys from a slave trader to save her from a terrible fate and subsequently raises as his own daughter. He is a classic Nice Guy who goes out of his way to assist others, a trait that draws other social outcasts to his restaurant and forms the core of the found family narrative. This helpfulness can sometimes border on a chronic hero syndrome. Despite his gentle side, he can be fiercely intimidating when those he cares about are threatened, such as when he becomes an overprotective Papa Wolf regarding Atelier, once declaring that no one below level 80 is worthy of her. He also showed a rebellious and cocky side in his youth, letting his rapid rise to level 90 go to his head, leading to an argument with his mentor Jean, a flaw he has since matured past.

Dennis's primary motivation is to run a successful restaurant that brings joy to its patrons, a dream he was unable to pursue while serving as a party chef. This desire is deeply personal, as he finds true purpose and fulfillment not in combat or adventuring, but in creating delicious food and the smiles it produces. His motivations are also heavily tied to protecting his new family, especially Atelier, and he is driven to confront his past when his former life threatens his present peace. In the story, he serves as the central figure around whom all other characters gather. He is the owner and chef of the titular establishment, which quickly becomes famous for his supreme culinary skills. His restaurant serves as a haven for other exiles, including Atelier, a disgraced knight named Henrietta, and a cocky mage named Vivia, all of whom he helps in various ways. His role evolves from a simple cook to a leader and father figure who resolves conflicts not just with his cleavers but through the wisdom and community built around his food.

Key relationships define much of his character arc. His bond with Atelier is that of a parent and child, a relationship that mirrors his own adoption by Jean Blacks. His former mentor, Jean, remains a significant figure, and their relationship is depicted not as a bitter falling out but as a natural parent-child conflict where a rebellious teenager needed to learn his own lessons. His antagonist is Vigo, the former captain of the Silver Wing Battalion, whose malicious and petty nature serves as a dark mirror for what Dennis could have become had he stayed on his previous path. He also has a supportive relationship with Katie, the former vice-captain of the Silver Wings, who understood his true value and remains his ally.

Throughout the story, Dennis undergoes significant development. Initially content to simply run his restaurant, he is forced to confront the political machinations and enemies from his past who threaten his new life. A major turning point is his battle with Vigo, where he finally understands why he could never reach the maximum level of 100. He realizes that leveling up is not simply about grinding or combat prowess, but about achieving a true sense of kindness and understanding derived from caring for others and making them happy through his cooking. This revelation allows him to reach level 100 and defeat his former captain, completing his journey from a banished supporter to a truly legendary figure.

Notable abilities include his supreme cooking skills, which are maxed out at level 99 and produce extraordinarily delicious food capable of revitalizing the soul. When forced into combat, he wields a pair of chef's knives, which he dual-wields with deadly efficiency, and he possesses immense physical strength, capable of subduing armed groups of thugs with his fists alone. He can also use fire magic, which he originally mastered for cooking purposes like making fried rice, though he admits to being less adept at using it for offensive combat. Furthermore, his expertise extends to alchemy and herbology, skills he leveled up for cooking that also allowed him to provide powerful support buffs and healing potions to his former adventuring party.
